Meet MOIMOI’s Minimalist Crossbody

Note: This post is NOT sponsored, but MOIMOI sent me this bag as a gift for me to style and share on the blog.

Over winter break I’ve been testing out a new Finnish-designed, leather crossbody bag. It’s one of those ultra simple, veggie tanned, sleek bags that will likely stand the test of time and trends.

The maker is MOIMOI, a small brand based in Helsinki, Finland, where the bags are designed before they’re made in Spain. Their mission is to support similar-minded small companies and pay fair salaries for artisans, and the materials they use.

The bags MOIMOI makes are the kind that get better with use and age. I really like this bag (the Laura handbag in brown) because of its ultra-minimalist design. It doesn’t distract from an outfit but, instead, subtly complements it. It’s big enough to hold the bare essentials and no more, keeping it light on my shoulder when I wear it.

Styled.

Here’s how I’ve been wearing my MOIMOI bag over the last few weeks.

This was my New Year’s Eve outfit (we took the kids out to dinner and ice cream). Worn with my cocoon coat, thrifted turtleneck, vintage jeans and M.Gemi boots (c/o).

Confession: I only wore this outfit for half the day. When we headed out, I swapped the cotton cardigan for some serious layers, and switched the booties for sneakers with ankle coverage. MOIMOI bag worn with Paloma Wool tee and Kamm pants.

Matchy-matchy here with my beloved chambray shirt, vintage jeans and L’envers cardigan. I put on a big black coat, because winter, and I loved the pop of brown against all the dark.

I love the simplicity of this design so much. It truly does look good with everything. This outfit has been my winter uniform of late. I wear my vintage jeans multiple times per week, very often with a cozy, pullover sweater on top. Sneakers are by PF Flyers.

If you’re in the market for a minimalist leather bag, MOIMOI has a great selection. I’m sporting the Laura in brown and I think the Marlin Bucket Bag in small is quite cute. They also have some good looking men’s items, including a smart work bag.

  1. Hi – I don’t want to be critical of your style choices, since I love most of them! But, this is a leather bag… not vegan and probably involves killing some cows. I really don’t support buying new leather bags when there are plenty already in existence, waiting in thrift stores for you to find! I hope to see you promote vintage leather pieces or vegan leather pieces in the future! Thanks.

    1. I tend to agree. Not even from an animal rights perspective but overall allocation of global resources. Purses like these are really not wear items (i.e. they last forever if taken care of unlike bigger totes that carry more). It’s so easy to find a gently used similar sized leather bag online.

As a a plant-based person, I don’t love vegan leathers. The plastics used are often terrible for the environment and they tend to wear out quickly meaning they need replacement more often than the leather versions.

  2. LOVE the bag!
So beautiful in al its simplicity…….
And I also love that I discover beautiful european webshops that I didn’t know before.
Ideal for me being dutch and living in the Netherlands.
I don’t have to worrie about any additional costs ;-)

    1. I love hearing about international readers! Nice to ‘meet’ you Martine. I have been enjoying this bag a lot, it’s great for traveling and the perfect shade of brown!

    1. Hi Amy! These boots are from Loeffler Randall, a little over two years ago! They are called the Felix. I’m not sure they’re made anymore.
