With Love, From San Francisco

One of my favorite things to do in this space is share new brands with you. They usually aren’t new to the world of ethical fashion, but often they are new to me, and sometimes new to you.

Today I bring you: Curator, from San Francisco, CA. Founded in 2005 by Deirdre Nagayama and Stacy Rodgers. Curator specializes in house-designed, locally made clothes that are meant to work for your real life. Think: knit tops, smart pants, and cozy cardigans. Their pieces are easy to style and wear, but still make a statement.

I’m currently wearing and styling the Jules Cardigan in tobacco. I like it because it reads like a jacket but feels like a sweater. It’s lightly quilted and brings a cozy factor that a light jacket would be hard pressed to match.

Curator’s Approach to Size and Fit.

Deirdre and Stacy design all of the clothing sold under the Curator label, and they have a unique fit process. They build all the clothing to work with their very different body shapes. One of them has a large bust, and the other a bigger tush. The women test the designs on their frames and adjust as necessary. Deirdre says when an item fits both of them well, they know it will fit a good cross section of women.

Curator has expanded their staple items into XL sizing, including their Fawn Skirt, Car Coat, Work Shirt, and Overalls, among other items. As the company grows they hope to keep expanding their size range.

Who Makes the Clothes?

They are very intentional about their manufacturing partners. Curator has long worked with two family-owned factories in San Francisco to create their clothing – both of which are within a ten mile drive from their shops.

More on the Jules Cardigan. (And a discount code.)

Beautiful bag, made by my friend Lori.

The Jules Cardigan is a unique garment, and for me it falls a bit on ‘coatigan’ territory, in the best way. As I said, it’s warmer than a (single layer) jacket, but it looks a little more polished than a cardigan. The size run is XS-L, and it comes in seven colors: tobacco (pictured), peacoat blue, green tea, scarlet, mushroom, turmeric, and black.

I’ve styled it a few ways for this post – with slim cut jeans and wide leg pants, and I love how it works with both silhouettes. The Jules Cardigan runs roomy, I took a size small, and it layers nicely over light sweaters. I love the drape of the soft, quilted fabric, it is lightly structured, but doesn’t have an overly boxy fit. But my favorite is definitely the texture! I love the quilted detail.

If you’re in the market for a ‘third’ piece to complete your winter outfits, the Jules Cardigan might be good for you! It retails for $168, but you can use the code ANDREA10 to save 10%, which makes it actually $151.20 – with free shipping! Discount code is good through Friday, December 14th.

A few more items that are catching my eye from Curator: the Work Shirt and the Painter Pants in mud, and I think the Larkspur Dress is very dreamy!

  1. Curator is my new fave! I bought their work shirt last month and have been wearing it nonstop (and their customer support is FAB too). So glad to have them local to me!

  2. I swore off Curator last fall when I asked them twice to help with sizing (via email and also via Instagram) and they couldn’t bother to get back to me to answer my question. Soured me on the company for life! (You look great though, Andrea).

    1. Hi Mary Beth,

I’m so sorry to hear that we didn’t respond. In truth I was having some personal issues last fall and may have missed some emails. I’ve searched our inbox and I’m not finding any messages. I would love to make it up to you if you email me again info@curatorsf.com

  3. The jacket is stunning! *adds to wishlist* I bought a Fawn skirt from CuratorSF a few months back & have absolutely adored it.

  4. I hadn’t heard of curator previously but will definitely be checking it out now. Looks gorgeous! And I have to say, I have been loving all your snaps of late; stunning Andrea! xx

  5. I have been looking for high shaft weatherproof booties for quite some time, without success. I assumed you were wearing the Aquitalia Carie in these photos, and was very surprised to see that while they are Aquitalia, they are not that style! I tried the Carie, which are truly gorgeous boots, but I just couldn’t handle the 2.5” heel. I see that the style you are wearing has a 1.75” heel, which would work so much better for me. Do you find that they run tts?

Love your blog, Andrea! Your content is excellent. I especially appreciate your styling “lessons”. You explain things so well, down to the smallest detail, and I find them so helpful!

    1. Hi Caroline, I am with you, I think 2.5″ would be too much for me as well. Yes, the style I have runs TTS, and it was comfortable out of the box!
Thank you so, so much for your kind words about my blog. Your encouragement is very motivating and means a lot to me. :)
