Meghan Markle is having a whopping effect on ethical fashion. Who could have predicted this? The full scoop by Whitney Bauck over at Fashionista.
Have you seen SALT, FAT, ACID, HEAT on Netflix yet? It’s a fascinating four-part docuseries about what makes our food taste good. But even more interesting, the person behind the series, Samin Nostrat, the creator and charasmatic host. Samin recently shared her beauty uniform with Cup of Jo, including combating two rarely talked about beauty situations: unwanted chin hair and thigh chaffing.
The newly launched Market45 aims to be your one-stop source for ethical, independent brands. They even have mens and children’s categories. Their lists are modest, but hopefully they will continue to grow.
Portland local Natalie Joy Miller of Natalie Joy Jewelry was featured on the Style Line. I had the pleasure of meeting her at an event this fall and was struck by her kindness and excellent personal style. And of course her gorgeous earrings.
Are you guys into cords? I am seeing them a lot this season. From Everlane’s (quickly sold out) release to Reformation’s line up (how cute are these coveralls?!) and First Rite’s drool-worthy pieces. I tried cords last fall, and they weren’t a good fit for me, but I am enjoying seeing how the trend plays out for others this season.
A friendly reminder: my discount code at Pyne & Smith expires at the end of the day Tuesday, 11/6. You can use the code SEASONS10 to save 10%. I’ve been wearing my shift dress as a tunic, and lately I’ve been super inspired by seeing how others rock their full length frocks.
Don’t forget to make plans to VOTE on Tuesday. In Oregon we vote by mail, which is extremely convenient. But it also means I have homework this weekend. Very thankful to live in a country that allows its citizens to weigh in.
I am fully on board with Samin’s dry cutting and Deva Curl recs. My hair is more wavy than curly, and I found it hard to manage from puberty onwards until I went this route. Life-changing!
I haven’t worn corduroy pants since… 2002 maybe? But I have a grey corduroy blazer I bought in 2005 and I still look forward to wearing it every fall!
Sometimes I get wrapped up in the idea of corduroy for fall, and the nostalgia I have wrapped around it from my teenage years. But then I think, would I really want to wear it year round? Or just in the fall?
I really like your blog and appreciate your personal style. I work in politics though and have to take issue with your statement that our country “allows its citizens to weigh in”. This country has never granted the right to vote to its citizens. We have fought tooth and nail for a representative democracy and everything we have won is always in jeopardy. Our laws are made by a slowly diversifying but still very white, old and male majority.
Voting is a right and an obligation. There are many in this country who fight really hard to make it very difficult for men and women in this country to vote. Vote suppression efforts across the country threaten the very foundation our democracy stands on. I just needed to say that before moving on.
Thank you for your voice and I hope you consider this.
Thanks for your input Amber!
I find Just Ethical Goods to be a bit more intuitive for shopping than Market 45.
They only have 10 brands so far but I love seeing pieces from different brands right next to each other. and you can save!
I’ll check it out, thanks Elle!
Meghan Markle just continues to get cooler and cooler, the more I learn about her.
RIGHT?!?!?!
I love these round ups! I look forward to them every Sunday. :)
Aw, thanks for your support Beth, it means so much!! :) I love having a place to share these things!
