November is one of my favorite months of the year. Probably because Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays of the year. I feel like November invites us to get cozy and spend time with loved ones. November has me thinking about what to make for Thanksgiving and how I can make more time in my life for puzzles, fireplaces and slow cups of coffee.
This fall my family’s level of busyness has been on my mind a lot. We just wrapped up fall sports and we don’t have a lot of activities planned for the winter, save for music lessons. With a family of five, our calendar can get really busy, really fast. I’m not perfect at this, but my best trick for preserving downtime is saying the word ‘no.’ And I mean saying ‘no’ to the things we like, even love, so we can say yes to the things we love even more. This is particularly true during the holiday season.
As I think through what I want the holidays to look like at our house, you can bet I’m thinking about what I will be wearing. I love a good outfit, but I still like my Thanksgiving and Christmas ensembles to be more chill than dressy. Oregon is very casual and this is reflected in our family gatherings. Sweaters and fall colors punctuated with slippers is the norm. This Thanksgiving I will probably wear something very close to this outfit. (But maybe looser pants.) I like the simple, and interesting color palette, and I like that a shirt with details (hello, puffed sleeves!) feels like an instant outfit.
My top is from Hackwith Design House’s Fall Core Collection. If you aren’t familiar with Hackwith, they’re women-led, Minnesota-based label and they make all their designs in-house. In addition to their Core Collection, they release limited run pieces (usually only 25 units!), often made with deadstock or vintage fabric. They’re deeply committed to ethical and sustainable production, as exemplified by their amazing Sustain Shop I wrote about this summer.
Their Core Collection has a great lineup this fall, including my Balloon Sleeve Top. I love the Raw Finish Cocoon Dress in all its modern-edgy goodness, and the Duster Cardigan is similar to the Sweater Jacket (from Hackwith’s FW17 Core Collection) that I’m currently sporting in my Fall 10×10.

I love the look of HDS, but they never have detailed sizing info on the garments. I’m never going to buy something if I don’t know how long it is (dress/top lengths and pants inseams). I don’t know why shops don’t take the time to add detailed sizing info when they’re selling primarily online.
Okay, rant over. That top is lovely on you
I feel the same way! I am all about the measurements when ordering online. I’ll be sure to pass on this feedback.
What a gorgeous shirt! I rushed over to their website to possibly order one, but I have to admit the $215 price point caused me to audibly gasp. I will just admire it from afar. :-)
Hi Courtney, have you checked out The Sustain Shop? Most of the tops there are listed at a much more wallet-friendly price point, most are below $100. It looks like there are a few balloon sleeve tops too!
Good lead! Sadly, the only color left would look abysmal on my. :-) Thank for the recommendation though!
Is that the Kamm in midnight? (beautiful!)
