As someone who eagerly shares new releases from favorite designers with an online audience, I get very excited when a brand values their styles enough to re-release them and keep them around for future seasons. As a consumer, it adds value to what I already own, instead of making me look at my closet wanting to buy yet another piece. (Something I struggle with!)
Today, I am very excited because Vetta has brought back their ultra popular Minimal Capsule! You may remember it from last fall, it included five versatile items that sold out fast, including: the 3-in-1 Oversized Sweater, the Reversible Jumper Dress, the Stretch Ankle Pant, the Long Cardigan, and the Convertible Shirt Dress.
In honor of this occasion, I decided to pull out my Long Cardigan from last fall and show you a few ways of styling it. It’s been awhile since I’ve worn it, and that’s due in part to summer’s heat, and because my black garments seem to hide in my closet (especially if they are folded or hung next to each other, they all just blend together!).
The Long Cardigan can be worn a number of ways: as a dress with buttons in the front or back, with a matching black waist tie, or without, and open as a cardigan. For today’s post I’ll be styling it in the two ways I have worn it: as a dress and as a long cardigan.
THE LONG CARDIGAN: Styled As a Dress
I forgot how I much I like wearing this as a dress until I put it on. It’s a crying shame I haven’t worn it more. It’s extremely flattering, with or without the belt tie (not pictured). It gently hugs the waist without being too clingy. The fabric is light but not sheer. Just in case, the dress/cardigan comes with a short, black slip that I always wear underneath.
See how I wore it as a dress in last fall’s 10×10.
Styled with: Day Heels, Circle Bag, Ilhan Earrings, Hyalite Necklace (c/o)
THE LONG CARDIGAN: Worn Open
The slim fit of this cardigan on my shoulders makes me feel really good. I love that it doesn’t add bulk! Surprisingly, I’ve only worn this a few times as a cardigan, I think mostly because the slim-fitting sleeves mean the layer underneath needs to have slim sleeves. The long lines of this cardigan work well with all shapes of pants (see how I wore it with wide leg pants), and I think it would be super cute over a sleeveless dress when trying to keep the chill away during the colder seasons.
Styled with: Top, Miranda Bennett (similar), Cheeky Jean, Clogs (very similar), Circle Bag
MORE THOUGHTS ON THE LONG CARDIGAN:
My 2017 version is made from rayon-polyester deadstock and features a ribbed knit. This year’s Long Cardigan is made from a Tencel and spandex blend, which is similar to last seasons and also features a subtle ribbed texture. It’s listed as ‘Dry Clean Only,’ something to keep in mind if considering making a purchase. As noted above this dress comes with a matching black slip. I am wearing a size small.
This item would be good for:
// Someone looking for a versatile piece to wear to work.
// Someone looking for a date-night or dressy-occasion piece that can pull double duty as a versatile cardigan.
Last fall, I also tried the Oversized Sweater, which is very warm and cozy. However, at the end of the season I passed it on because the long length did not work well with most of the pants in my wardrobe. It would probably style well with skinny jeans and leggings, or worn open over a body-con dress.
Did you try anything from the Minimal Capsule last fall? Let us know in the comments below!
This post is not sponsored. I received the Long Cardigan as a gift from Vetta last fall. This post contains affiliate links.
Thanks for this post, Andrea! Very helpful. If you don’t mind, would you share which size of the long cardigan you ordered? I just wonder because on the website, they only show sizes XS + S being worn as a dress, and I wonder, if the buttons gape open on women who need the larger sizes. Thanks!
Hi Bri! My guess is that’s because of the models’ sizing. I have a small, and no gapping in mine
I’m wondering if they will release photos of women in multiple sizes wearing the garments. That would be really helpful! I’m not normally good with form fitting dresses but love the versatility, and just generally love Vetta’s concept.
Hi Lauren, I find photos like that very helpful too! It looks like Vetta did shoot other women in the Long Cardigan, you can find the photos here: https://www.vettacapsule.com/pages/vetta-real-women-the-long-cardigan
I almost clicked buy instantly this morning when I saw their post. Then I saw that the dress/sweater is dry clean only. :\ I just won’t buy everyday wear pieces I cannot at least wash myself in the sink. Really disappointed by that. A lot of the collection is dry clean only.
I purchased the oversized sweater last year and it’s held up well in the delicate cycle of my wash machine.
I agree Jo, that does make it hard. I find sweaters in general tricky to launder, and that they take a beating in the washer. I almost always wear mine with a thin undershirt to help eliminate the need for washing. After I wear them, I air them out on the back of a chair in my room before putting them back away.
They have pictures of different sizes women wearing them for almost each piece. You just need to scroll down the description and find the link. Although I thought they should make the link much more visible
Thanks for the tip Jessie! I didn’t see this until you pointed it out.
I was excited to see this capsule relaunched! I’m curious to hear your thoughts on the oversized sweater. You reviewed it pretty positively last year and it looks amazing, but I’ve never seen it pop up again on your blog. I’m very tempted to buy it before it sells out again. Thanks!
Hi Courtney! I wrote a little paragraph about it at the end of this blog post. :)
Thanks so much for your thoughtful and creative review! It’s great to see the cardigan worn as both a sweater and a dress.
On an unrelated note, where did you get your great floor-length mirror in the background? I’m on the hunt for something similar and was curious where you bought yours! xo
Ha, thank you! I’ve had so many people ask about that mirror! It’s from Ikea :) :)
I love it and own it but the buttons constantly come undone on me has this not been a problem for you?
Hi Kirsten, I have not had this problem. I wonder if your button holes need to be tightened up?
