What I Wore: Hat Edition (+ new jeans!)

I promise I’m not thinking about fall yet. Though, technically, I have purchased one autumnal item already (see below). I am not a fan of rushing the end of one season to get to the next. I love summer, the sound of crickets at dusk, eating fresh fruit, riding bikes, warm nights, cold beer, slow schedules, sunny days, the list goes on. There are a lot of exciting things about fall too but, for the next three weeks (which is all I have left until my kids go back to school), I’m focusing on summer.

That means I’m getting all the wear I can out of my summer wardrobe, including some fun mixing and matching this week.

MONDAY:

Tank (suuuuper old, Old Navy, circa 2011, I have a handful of these that I usually wear as undershirts!) ethically made option | Painter Skirt, c/o Hackwith Design House, sold out | Birkenstocks | Hat, Brookes Boswell | Necklace, c/o Rebecca Mir Grady | Vintage Sisal Bag, Etsy

Style Notes: I love this skirt every time I wear it. It is decidedly feminine, so I am always trying to think of ways to ‘tone it down.’ This time I thought a pair of boxy Birkenstocks were in order. I feel sort of ‘farmhouse wife’ in this look and I don’t mind a bit. Later, we picked blackberries and I felt like I earned the title!

TUESDAY:

Striped Dress (S), c/o Tradlands | Pons, by Avarcas | Hat, Brookes Boswell | Small Slice Hoops, c/o Baleen | Sunglasses, Ray-Ban

Style Notes: I’ve decided I like this dress better with a little rumple. It was fresh off the drying rack and, in my ever-lazy state, I skipped the iron to see how it would do. Turns out, a little extra ‘body’ gives this slick dress a little character.

WEDNESDAY:

Dress, Pyne & Smith | BirkenstocksHat, Brookes Boswell | Vintage Sisal Bag, Etsy | Initial Cuff, Able | Angle Cuff, c/o Moulton

Style Notes: This is one of my favorite summer items! I bought it last summer from Pyne & Smith and it feels like one of those items that is the ‘essence’ of summer. It’s very lightweight and easy to wear. Again, it’s slightly feminine for my style, so I like to pair it with casual shoes like Birkenstocks. That one time I wore it with clogs in the winter was very cool too.

THURSDAY:

Cardigan no18 (one size), Babaá Knitwear | Jumpsuit, c/o Matter Prints | Pons, by Avarcas | Classic Shoulder Bag, Cuyana

Style Notes: A serious dip in weather Thursday meant I got to wear a sweater! And I busted out this jumpsuit, which I love so much. However, I have found, we have to hit a pretty specific temperature window for me to feel comfortable in it, between about 65-75 degrees. It’s very vented in the back, which makes it nice and breezy, but makes it too cool for some spring/fall days.

FRIDAY:

Alta Top in white linen, Only Child x Seasons + Salt (from last spring, same in oatmeal linen) | Crop Flood Jeans, Reformation via Nordstrom | Clogs, No.6 (similar) | Eloria Necklace, c/o Loop Jewelry, (use code Seasons10 to save 10%)

I had to get ready fast this morning because we had to drop our family car off for some repairs before my husband went to work. We have two semi-older vehicles, a 2005 and a 2008. Some days I dream about something new and sparkly, but having two paid-for cars feels so good. The trade off however, is the occasional $$ we have to drop on repairs. For now, I’m counting it as worth it!

Since I had to get ready fast, I opted to keep things simple. Another cool day gave me a chance to try out these jeans I unexpectedly picked up last week. I took my daughter to the mall to look for a backpack purse for her birthday (super cute 9-year-old request), and when we were walking through Nordstrom, I noticed they had a Reformation section. In about five minutes flat, I found these jeans, tried them on and and paid for them. Unheard of for me! I was so pleased to find them, a style I’d been looking for, but seemed to elude me. (Most of the time cropped jeans are too short on me!)

Style Notes: This is one of those ‘ultra-me’ looks and I love it. A white top and jeans will forever be my favorite. Adding comfy clogs and a vintage bags makes it even better!

SATURDAY:

Emerson Caftan, c/o Emerson Fry | Madrid Sandal, Birkenstock | Hat, Brookes Boswell

Style Notes: Proudly outfit-repeating in this caftan, and not mad about it. Pairing it with the hat borders on ‘over the top’ for me, but it was day three hair, so I went with it.

SUNDAY:

Striped Tank, Everlane | Clyde Work Short (6) in Linen, Elizabeth Suzann, SS17 | Birkenstocks

Style Notes: It was a super casual day of helping friends move and hopping on my bike with the kids. They are actually getting fast enough on their bikes that I need to ride my bike to keep up with them. Some days I miss having a baby to hold, but this is pretty fun too.

FAVORITES: Thursday + Friday – Dresses and skirts are fun, but I think my heart is in a pair of pants!

  1. I love all these looks, Andrea! They are so easy breezy. I appreciate the reminder to gobble up summer – it’ll be gone with too many straight months of clouds before we know it.

    1. Thanks Lindsey! I agree, the clouds are gonna be here before we know it, yikes! Why does this time of year always go so fast?! Hope you guys are getting to soak up the remaining weeks before school starts!
