As summer rolls on and vacations and road trips dominate the schedule, I’ve still been snapping outfit photos! This post isn’t from one continuous week, but instead a collection of outfits from the last few weeks or so… including some less than glamorous airport style. (Airline blanket anyone?) Read on to see a few outfits I wore in Seattle, how I’ve been playing with color, and when I felt like a goddess.
Alta Top (S/M), c/o Only Child | cut offs, from thrifted Levi’s | Sandals, old Everlane (similar) | Vintage Sisal Bag, Etsy | Eloria Necklace, c/o Loop Jewelry, (use code Seasons10 to save 10%)
Style Notes: I am not sure why, but this top has been collecting dust in my closet! I think in my head, I needed some fitted/slim bottoms to pair it with. Recently I decided to style it with matching shoes for a nearly monochromatic look, and I loved it. AND, it turns out, baggy shorts look great with the loose top. It felt good to play with color and shape, experiment and land a win.
Striped Tank, Everlane | Wide Pant, Lauren Winter (from FW16) | Huaraches (9.5), Nisolo | Day Market Tote, c/o Everlane | Necklace, c/o Rebecca Mir Grady
Style Notes: I can’t tell you guys how much I love these pants. When elastic jeans are an option, it makes fitted jeans a lot harder to reach for! I opted for a simple black bag over my current favorite vintage bag, because I thought the patterns would compete too much. I also wore these pants a few days later when I flew to Denver. They make excellent travel pants!
Tank, c/o Yala | Belt, from high school | Levi’s, vintage | Huaraches (9.5), Nisolo | Vintage Sisal Bag, Etsy | Necklace, c/o Rebecca Mir Grady
Jerry Seinfeld collects Porsches, I collect vintage jeans. My habit’s not so bad, right? My cousin (who is more like a sister than a cousin) recently came to visit me for some quality time together in Portland. On a whim one night after dinner, we walked by my favorite vintage shop, which happened to be open. We tried on a handful of jeans each, and both brought home a pair! I couldn’t resist the wash on these. They are a little baggy, but I hope this will allow me to take them in, and create a high-rise out of a mid-rise style. Fingers crossed!
Style Notes: The earth tones in this outfit make me very happy. I thought the belt might be a bit over the top at first, but I ended up really liking the three shades of tan/brown together.
Striped Dress (S), c/o Tradlands (use code SUMMERSTYLE to save 20% through 8/2) | Birkenstocks | Sunglasses, c/o Zappos
This is the (embarrassed) look I get when neighbors pull into the cul-de-sac while I’m taking photos.
Style Notes: This is a pretty straightforward look. When I wear blue, I prefer to pair it with black or tan shoes, instead of brown. For some reason I’m not a big fan of blue and brown together unless the blue is denim.
Denim Jacket, Levi’s (similar) | Tee, (similar) | Sweatpants, Everlane | Madrid Sandal, Birkenstock | Pakt One bag c/o Pakt (review coming soon!)
So, there’s a story here. This is the day I was flying home from Denver, scheduled for a 10:24pm departure. About an hour or so before boarding I changed into cozy clothes for the flight. Little did I know I would be sleeping in the airport that night. Our inbound plane landed about three hours late, and by that time it was too late for the captain and crew to fly again. United tried to find a stand-by crew but couldn’t. At 1:30am, we were informed that we wouldn’t be able to fly out until 7am! Oh, and the hotels were full too. It was like a big sleepover with a bunch of strangers at a non-cushy boarding gate. An experience to remember for sure. But I was very thankful I had my trusty sweats on, and had access to all my luggage when I needed a toothbrush and makeshift pillow. Carry-on for the win!
Emerson Caftan, c/o Emerson Fry | Pons, by Avarcas | Backpack, c/o Everlane (sold out, love this one!) | Necklace, c/o Rebecca Mir Grady
Style Notes: My feet are officially the same color of tan as my sandals. #goals I wore this our first night in Seattle. It was a great dress for traveling, and equally as good in the heat (the fabric is extra thin!). I really like how this dress makes me feel a bit like a goddess instead of a tired mama of three.
Baseball Cap, Everlane | Dress, Everlane, a few years old (similar + reversible) | Birkenstocks | Classic Wayfarer, Ray-Ban (5 years and counting with these favs!)
Style Notes: Okay, I’m going to be really honest and say everything about this picture is kind of gross. This is the gum wall in Seattle. It’s an alleyway where people have apparently been sticking their gum for a very long time. Ewww. The drippy ones are the grossest. But I also kind of feel gross about this outfit! I don’t love the straight lines + masculine shoes + athletic cap. The whole thing tilts a little too ‘athleisure’ for me!
Luzon Tie Top, c/o Only Child (same in solid black) | Clyde Work Short (6) in Linen, Elizabeth Suzann, SS17 | Vintage Sisal Bag, Etsy | Huaraches (9.5), Nisolo | Hat, Brookes Boswell
Style Notes: Makeshift romper for the win again! I love this pairing so much. I also wore it here. These shorts are freaking fantastic. Any tepidness I felt about them last summer has vanished. The quality of the linen is very luxe, and they are amazing to wear in the heat. I can’t say enough good things about them! Yesterday my son spilled green smoothie on them. Actually, he flipped on the blender when I had my back turned to grab glasses, and the smoothie exploded onto me. Anyway, I had to make sure and wash them ASAP so I could wear them again the next day!
The Hat: I felt a little uneasy about spending so much money on a hat, but after selling my Cuyana one, and being unable to source a replacement, I was feeling a tad desperate. I have a big head, and have a really hard time shopping for hats online. I finally decided to pop into Shop Boswell, where these Brookes Boswell hats are made, and it was like magic, the first one I tried on looked and felt good. Dirty hair and sun-protected face, here I come!
CLOSING THOUGHTS: I’m still thinking about the accidental summer goals I mentioned a few weeks ago. I have been feeling great in my summer closet, and want to continue that in to the fall. I’m mulling over how I want to feel, and hope to shape up one or two clear goals in the next few weeks. Of course I plan to share them here, and hopefully it will guide me into successful, fuss-free outfits in the fall!
I’ve missed you on here Andrea!
Sounds like you’ve been having a great summer traveling! United ruined our trip to the Bahamas last month so much that we couldn’t even go. Worst airline ever. Never again!
I’ve been feeling really good this summer too overall and for me I think it’s because everything I bought really works and I’ve kept it pretty simple! Ha ha.
Have a great day!
Xo!
Oh man, that sucks about your trip!! Grrr!!
But thank you for the nice comment, it feels good to be missed. :) <3
Yay! Glad you had fun family trip. We are leaving tonight (red eye) to Cincinnati to visit my family. Hoping the kids can keep it together, fingers crossed. I love, love, love your Lauren Winter pants! They are my #goals. Curious how they would look in Tencel. Seems like it might be too fancy for my stay at home mom lifestyle.
Also, I love your new straw hat. Would like to get your thoughts on it.
Thanks girl! I really, really like it. It’s very comfortable, which is key to me. I can’t do stiff hats. You’ll see more of it next week!
Oooo! I hope the trip went well! As for tencel, I do find it a tad dressy for everyday mom life. Maybe linen or cotton? I am kind of dying for the ES Florence pants in linen, but going to try and hold out till next spring.
I like the baggy jeans. I just bought a pair of relaxed fit mom jeans and they are really fun to wear.
It is SUCH a nice shift from all the tight jeans we’ve been wearing for the last few decades!!
Love love love your new levis! Question: do you hem your vintage jeans? If you alter them, would you just get the waist taken in or would you alter them in any other way? I have a new pair of vintage levis that I bought and they are way too long for me so I was going to hem them but was also thinking about other alterations. Wondering if it’s worth it to go to a professional.
You always look so effortlessly cool!
One pair I had hemmed, and one pair I cut for a raw edge! The rest have been a good length. The pair I hemmed, I wore for a few weeks cuffed, to get a sense of what length I wanted them hemmed at. I think if you have a pair you love, it’s worth it to have them hemmed! And seriously, thank you! That is the best compliment ever!
