Have you guys heard about Hackwith Design House’s Sustain Shop yet? In June, the folks at HDH launched this new branch of their company, taking on a task few other brands come close to touching.
The Sustain Shop.
In a nutshell the Sustain Shop is HDH’s move to take responsibility for the life-cylce of their clothing. The new shop takes in our old pieces, repairs them if needed, or repurposes them into a totally new garment. If the items are in good condition, they are washed and then sold as is. All of the items are sold through the Sustain Shop at a lower price point than new HDH items.
AND, you get $20 in credit for each HDH item you send in. The credit is redeemable in both the Sustain Shop and the regular collections.
They’re doing it because they believe in zero-waste clothing, and creating garments that are meant to be loved again and again. I am 100% onboard with this concept; I even sent one item in already! (It was a tunic that ended up being the wrong shape for me.) The process for sending items in is super simple, and you can read all about it here.
The fine print.
They are unable to accept swimwear or intimates for hygienic concerns. However, they do welcome any other HDH items, including ones that were purchased from stockists or sample sales. See their complete FAQ here.
The Jumpsuit.
Lets talk about this jumpsuit. When I receive new items as part of a collaboration for a blog post (like this one) I make a point not to show the item on my blog or on Instagram until the item collaboration has debuted (like today). So I’ve been sitting on this puppy for 6 weeks! It’s been so hard to keep it from you guys, as currently, it’s one of my very favorite items in my wardrobe!
This is the Wide Leg Jumper from the Basics line, and it was in the Sustain Shop because it has a small flaw in the fabric, and therefore they didn’t feel right selling it at full price. If you look closely at the photo below you can see the two flaws, one level with where my bracelets fall, and the other at about knee level.
At first, I was a little worried I would like the jumpsuit less because of the ‘flaw’ but, in all honesty, I had forgotten all about it until I sat down to write this post!
This is the same jumpsuit style as my black tencel one from HDH, only this is made from mid-weight denim. It comes with a matching belt, but my favorite way to wear it is loose without a tee underneath! (It was cold on the day we shot these photos though, so I had to layer a bit to keep warm.)
This jumpsuit is making all my dreams come true because it’s a blend of so many items I love: jumpsuits, denim and wide legs! I also feel super cool when I wear it. Which is a pretty great feeling for a 35-year-old mom of three.
The Sustain Shop jumpers go fast, but you can find a complete listing here.
My HDH Sustain Shop picks.
–Sample Jacket in Baked Clay– I have a skirt in this fabric, and it is so good.
-Sample Dress in Linen- Features a raw hem and double-v design.
The Sustain Shop is regularly re-stocked, so be sure to check back in the future if you don’t see what you’re looking for at first perusal.
Currently in my closet from HDH: the Basic Shift Dress, which I have worn many, many times over, including to fancy events or with my Birkenstocks. I have a size medium in black tencel. The Retie One Piece (M) see me wearing it here. The Wide Leg Jumper in black tencel and light denim (both S), and the Swing Painter Skirt (which I don’t see listed anymore).
Needless to say, I’m a fan! I’m excited about their new Sustain Shop, I think it’s an amazing step in responsible manufacturing and slow fashion.
If you’re shopping in the next week, you can use the code FORSALTREADERS to save 10%. It’s good in the Sustain Shop and the entire Hackwith Design House collection, including swimsuits! The code expires in ONE WEEK on July 19th.
This post is part of a partnership with Hackwith Design House. That means the jumpsuit is a gifted item from The Sustain Shop and that I will make a small commission on any sales using my discount code. Thank you for supporting brands who are making meaningful change in the apparel industry!
Thanks for spreading the word about the Sustain Shop! I have that jumpsuit in black and LOVE it. I wore it to a bridal shower and to the playground. Super versatile. The sizing was a challenge though. I find their stuff to run really large. I ended up getting an xs in the jumpsuit even though I’m more of a size 4-6. I’m very interested in trying out some of their swimwear, but am not sure if that runs large as well. Thoughts/advice on this? Thanks!
Hi Kelly, I hear you on the sizing! I have a mix of sizes from HDH, and their stuff often fits oversized. I found my swimsuit to run TTS, the medium is a great fit. For reference I’m usually a 6 or 28 in pants. Don’t hesitate to send them an email if you have questions. They are super kind and helpful!
I love this jumpsuit on you! I am searching for a jumpsuit for the winter months. I like the raw finish jumper at Hackwith Design. Looks like it would be easy to layer. Have you had a chance to try it during your collaboration? Would be interested to hear your thoughts!
Hi Divya,
Sorry for the delay in my reply, I somehow missed your comment! I have not tried that one, but it does look cute! I think Erin over at Reading My Tea Leaves has it though!
Girl, I’m not sure I know anyone that rocks a jumpsuit better than you!! Love this look on you! And seriously, everytime I see you wear one I think ‘maybe I should give one a try — not too far off from my beloved overalls, right?’ ;)
Indeed, not so far off at all!! ;)
