the Weekly Rundown: Early Morning Routines + Slow Travel

Seasons and salt blog

ETHICS:

Melania Trump’s ‘I Don’t Really Care’ jacket is making waves. But what’s interesting to me, it appears to be another example of art theft by a big, fast fashion chain. Update: the original article was updated to say the Zara jacket was released before the R13 jacket.

A simple way to support responsible manufacturing: six ethical brands that are better than J.Crew.

Did you know that Patagonia stands behind all their products, and will repair them for free? I went to my local Patagonia store last weekend and, to my thrill, was able to drop off my son’s (second hand) Patagonia puffer jacket, which had taken a beating this winter. They promised to patch up a few small holes and fix the zipper, and ship the item back to me in a few weeks. That’s how committed they are to re-use. Those are values I can get behind! That made it very easy for me to pick up a fleece for myself (first one in nearly 20 years!) and a bicycle commuter jacket for my husband. It gives me tremendous piece of mind to know the company will do their part to ensure my purchases stand the test of time.

STYLE:

Have you guys heard of Artisan and Fox? They sell a carefully curated selection of handmade goods from around the world, including these super cute hand-woven bags.

After being inspired by an outfit post I saw a few weeks ago, I bought myself one of Everlane’s new baseball caps! It’s perfect for extending my hair washing routine another day. It’s pretty cute too. You will see it in this week’s What I Wore post.

LIFE:

I’m finding inspiration in Erin’s early morning routine and 3 a.m. (gasp!) call time. So far this summer I have been waking before the kids to get things done before they rise, but definitely not that early!

This week I’m cooking: lettuce wraps, burrito bowls and an easy summer frittata.

I recently finished No One Is Coming to Save Us, and it was definitely a ‘thinker’ book. There were lots of layers of meaning, and I don’t think I caught it all, but I enjoyed the journey. It’s a book about people who don’t have their lives together, and who are wrestling through it all in their own personal – yet intermingled – journeys.

TRAVEL:

The secret to slow travel. I’m already taking notes for my next trip.

  1. It looks like Zara was ripped off (if you read all the way through to the “update”) though…
Now on to the rest 🤗
