“Jacqui is a simple handbag company rooted in the belief that personal style always exceeds fashion.”
-Matt Pierce, founder
As you guys know, I’m a big fan of personal style. However, for any item to make the grade and mesh with my personal style it has to be just as functional as it is stylish. With that in mind, I’m excited to share a new brand with you, that’s launching right here in Portland.
The innovative new handbag line, named Jacqui, features two simple designs: large and small. Creator and founder Matt Pierce says his philosophy is to create cherished bags that “develop a greater softness, patina and their own histories as you carry them.” Basically, the one, do-it-all bag that you love and wear, which just gets better with time. A beautiful example of slow fashion at its finest.
Matt is no stranger to bag making, he founded the successful Wood&Faulk brand sold all over the world. The Jacqui line offers a softer, chicer alternative to the wildly popular outdoorsy bags and accessories by Wood&Faulk. All Jacqui bags and products will be cut, sewn and assembled here in Portland. If the style and ethos of the bags speak to you – there’s ONE MORE day left of their Kickstarter. It closes Friday, June 15th at 8am, PDT.
What I Love About My Jacqui Bag:
>> The leather is exquisite! Matt says he was inspired to start this line because of the leather, and I can see why. It’s thick, supple, luxurious, all the clichéd things people say about leather except they are 100% true.
>> It’s a do-it-all bag. I can fit snacks, a book, a cast-off sweater, etc. in addition to my usual essentials. But it looks way sexier than a typical, big, mom-bag. And when I’m using it with just my essentials, it’s extra slouchy and chic.
>> The slouch. This is my favorite feature about this bag. The leather is slouchy and relaxed. It has the beauty and function of high quality leather without any of the stuffiness.
Outfit Details:
For these photos I’m wearing the Cheeky Jean (27R), by Everlane with my Boxy Blouse, c/o Vetta. Clogs are by No.6 (consider sizing down, the leather is stretchy on these!).
Only a few hours left on the Jacqui Kickstarter!
If you have 51 seconds to spare, check out their video. It’s really good! And just a heads up, after the Kickstarter closes (Friday at 8am PDT) the price of the bags goes up from $250 to $360.
This post is in support of Jacqui bags. I was gifted a bag to test out, but was not compensated for this post. All photography by Kiara Rose.
I’ve been eyeing this bag since the Kickstarter launched! You mentioned the things you like about the bag, but are there things you don’t like? How is the inside of the bag? Would you get one if you had to buy it? Thanks!
Hi Courtney, great questions!! The bag is really big, and I was a little unsure about that at first, but I’ve realized that is what makes it so unique, and not just another hobo. If I were to change one thing, I think I’d prefer brass or gold-tone hardware. (I gave that feedback to Matt too.) The inside is awesome. It’s lined with beautiful fabric and has an inner pocket that zips. If I were to buy it, I’d totally go for the brown, it’s SO gorgeous!!!
Thanks, Andrea! I appreciate the additional info. The brown is pretty dreamy!
I got the Wood & Faulk field bag in the color that resembles Fawn last fall – it is an amazing color. I wish it had a liner and was a sploosh bigger. When I saw you mention the Kickstarter a few weeks ago, I wrote them an email asking if my field bag bag could be retrofitted with a liner and sadly, it cannot, because it’s sewn in with the zipper. The big bag is tempting though – if that doesn’t scream packing enough for soccer Saturday, I don’t know what does!
Haha, yep! A big mom bag that feels a little less mommish! Your Wood & Faulk bag sounds super cute!!
I just tried to order a bag on the Kickstarter and they closed it early? It’s 5:30pm MST and thought it was closing at 8pm PST????
Oh no, I am so sorry to hear that! I do hope you sent them an email!
Hi Tracy, I’m so sorry, but it closed at 8:30am… I wish I had a later closing time, but it was dictated by our starting time. We will be taking preorder through our website soon though.
