STYLE:
Need Supply’s summer sale is underway. A few notable highlights: a workwear jumpsuit by APC, that if I was a smidge cooler or braver I’d try out, a mini purse by Baggu (along with other styles!), and one of the cutest raffia totes I’ve seen yet.
Did you guys know you can now shop Reformation at Nordstrom? I love it when sustainable fashion is more available to a mainstream audience. I’m totally digging their high waist crop jeans (of course!).
There’s only a few days left for the Jacqui Kickstarter, a new, Portland-based handbag line. They sent me one of their bags to test out and share with you guys, and let me tell you, the leather is some of the most luxurious I’ve ever seen. More to come on the handbag later this week!
On S+S:
Last year at this time I was embarking on a 30 Day style challenge: 30 items for 30 days and no shopping. Are you doing any style challenges or shopping fasts this summer?
IN THE KITCHEN:
I’m trying my hand at making my own (coconut) yogurt. Have you done it before? Mine is currently fermenting on the counter, I’ll let you know how it goes
This week, I made a new, veggie-heavy recipe that was a big hit with the whole family: Peanut Slaw with Soba Noodles. Basically anything that has noodles is a hit with my kids. It’s a hit with me when 2/3s of those “noodles” are actually veggies.
READING:
A fews days ago I finished Tumbling, a novel set in 1950’s Philadelphia. It’s a look inside the community-centric life of days gone by, what urban living used to be like and gentrification at its earliest stages. The characters are rich and the plot lines are unexpected.

Editor’s Note: It’s been a heavy week with two high profile suicides. I didn’t think I could put together my Weekly Rundown without ever-so-gently touching on the topic. It’s heartbreaking to think that these individuals reached the ultimate point of despair. It’s even sadder to think about the number of people they represent, who we will never hear about. The devastation that goes on behind closed doors is hard to ponder.
As I’ve mourned this week, it’s reminded me of two things. First, mental health is extremely crucial and not to be taken lightly, in any form. We need to pay attention to loved ones around us and ask, ‘how are you doing?’ even on the best days. The second thing it reminds me of is this: the deep human need to be known and loved. Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain both appeared to be experiencing a break in relationships at the time of their deaths. We were created to be loved and the absence of it is deeply troubling. I don’t know what advice to offer up here, but perhaps, let’s be slow to put up walls, and façades, and be quicker to be known, and to offer love.
If you have ideas and experiences of sharing love with friends/family/neighbors who are walking through pain and suffering, and mental illness, I would love to hear them.
I appreciate touching on the issue on your blog! I think substance use and mental health are at a new crisis point in many of our communities, and living a slower, more purposeful life, like you share here, can be part of a lifestyle needed to manage a mental health diagnosis. I’m a licensed social worker and I work at a hospital that also handles patients needing psychiatric care, so I’m sharing these anywhere and everywhere:
National Suicide Prevention Hotline: 1-800-273-8255. Talk to a real person 24/7, and they’ll even send an ambulance to you if you are at risk for harm.
You can also chat online: https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/chat/
Or text: Text HOME to 741741 in the US
Most states also have a 211 or 311 number that you can dial and be connected to local resources.
Thank you so much for this Anne!
