What I Wore: Everlane’s Cheeky Jeans + the Day Glove (among other things)

Hello! It’s been a few weeks, but I am finally back with another installment of What I Wore! It was nice to have a little time off from outfit documentation. It gave me the breathing room to feel creative and not overthink what I wore. However, as soon as I snatched up these gorgeous brown pants, I got excited to snap away again. You can see how I styled them this week along with the new Cheeky Jean and Day Glove shoes, both from Everlane.

TUESDAY:

Denim Jacket, Levi’s (similar) | Raglan Sweater, old | Sailor Pants, (8 -runs small), Jesse Kamm | Day Glove flat (10.5), c/o Everlane | Classic Shoulder Bag, Cuyana

Well, I bought a second pair of Sailor Pants by Jesse Kamm. A boutique I follow ran a flash sale, and I was able to pick them up on discount. This color -Skintone 34- is amazing, it looks even better in real life. It’s a gorgeous shade of brown and the canvas fabric is slightly textured. I am a big fan of Kamm pants because they are practical enough for every aspect of my life with kids, and are super chic.

The manufacturer website says this color runs small, and I found that to be true for me too. The fit of these is basically between a regular size 6 and 8 in Kamm sizing. A 7, if you will, so they are slightly roomier than my other pair. These pants were 100% totally comfortable right out of the package, and I’m a little nervous about them stretching out, but so far, so good. If they stretch out too much, I may try putting them in the dryer or taking them to the tailor. The gorgeous color is worth the size fuss for me!

The Day Flat: Everlane sent these to me as a PR sample, and they are pretty cool. It’s a style I might not have gone for initially, but I really like the way they look with wide leg pants. And they’re incredibly comfortable. If you want a little more review info, you can click over to my Instagram Stories highlights.

Style Notes: When styling this look, I really wished I had some simple black shoes. But then I decided to layer my browns, and I ended up loooooooving the way this look came together. Black shoes would have been a way less interesting and a lot more ‘expected.’

WEDNESDAY:

Cardiff Work Jacket in Camel, OS Regular, c/o Only Child | Striped Button Up, Tradlands (similar in short sleeve) | Belt, old from high school! | Cheeky Jean (28R), c/o Everlane | Clogs, No.6, currently unavailable, but I think they will be back in the Fall | Classic Shoulder Bag, Cuyana

On Wednesday I took Everlane’s new Cheeky Straight jeans for a test drive. Right now I feel 50/50 about them. I took my usual size, but they were loose out of the box, and ended up getting too roomy by the end of the day. I like the overall cut of them: a high waist that tapers with a loose-ish straight leg. The wash is just okay for me. It’s a faded-indigo, but it’s pretty basic in my opinion. For a more detailed look, check out my Instagram stories highlights. And for the curious, I had some Everlane credits so I decided to order a size down to see how I like them. I’ll keep you updated!

Style Notes: I wore this all day but, after a few hours, I felt like I was too far out of neutral territory for my taste. I like all these elements, just not together. I think the bold jacket and the bold stripes are a little too intense to pair together (for my personal style preference). Next time, a different jacket or a simpler top would work better.

THURSDAY:

Cardigan (M/L) Cuyana | Alta Top in white linen, Only Child x Seasons + Salt (from last spring, same in oatmeal linen) | Clyde Work Pant, olive in cotton twill, Elizabeth Suzann (similar in cotton canvas) | Pons, c/o Avarcas | Day Market Tote, c/o Everlane

Oh heyyyy Clyde pants, long time no see! I enjoyed wearing these lovelies again for the first time in too long. They are such a great statement pant. Though I do find the olive green a little harder to style than other shades.

Style Notes: A very easy ‘mom’ outfit that’s just as comfortable as leggings but way more stylish.

Style Score: 9

FRIDAY:

Cardigan (M/L) Cuyana | Jumpsuit, c/o Matter Prints | Clogs, No.6, currently unavailable | Day Market Tote, c/o Everlane

Check out that Yorkie bum! That’s our little dog, Stella, who just celebrated her 10th birthday! I was super thrilled to dig out my Matter jumpsuit after a long and chilly winter. I love, love the print of this, and the whole look, but it’s quite ventilated in the back, so it needs to be around 60 degrees and up to wear it. It’s a super fun piece that attracts compliments every time I wear it.

Style Score: 10

SATURDAY:

Sweater Jacket, c/o Hackwith Design House (no longer available) | Alta Top in raw silk, c/o Only Child | Sailor Pants, (8 -runs small), Jesse Kamm | Chloe Peep Toe Clog (41) in Blush nubuck, Bryr | Ilhan Earrings, Seaworthy (Made in Portland!) | Bucket Bag, the Stowe

Today was Sustainable Fashion Forum day! It was such an amazing event. I loved connecting with wonderful people and brands in real life. I got to spend time with my favorite Portland blogger ladies: Ellie, Chloé and Allison. They are an amazing bunch!

Style Notes: I loved my outfit. Since I was nervous, I went for ‘comfort’ items: Kamm pants (yes, these ones are comfortable! and they are also very in my ‘comfort zone’), Alta top in raw silk (a shape and fabric that works really well for me), and, of course, clogs!

Style Score: 10

SUNDAY:

T Sweater, c/o Jamie + the Jones | Dark Denim (28), Imogene + Willie | Day Glove flat (10.5), c/o Everlane | Bucket Bag, the Stowe | Sunglasses, Ray-Ban

This is the second day I wore my ‘Day Glove’ shoes out and about, and I am really impressed by them. If you’ve read my blog for any amount of time, you probably know I have finicky feet. I have a hard time with fit, and comfort is king. We walked all over on Sunday, and these shoes literally felt like a second skin. I think it’s because they truly fit me like a glove, so there is no rubbing of the leather anywhere on my foot. They are totally flat and don’t have arch support, something I usually need, so again, I am really surprised that they are so comfortable.

Style Notes: A super basic outfit for a simple Sunday. Nothing really of sartorial note here, but it was easy to pick out, and comfortable to wear all day. Please note my runaway son in the background. :)

Style Score: 8.5

FAVORITES: Tuesday/Friday/Saturday

KEY LESSONS: I really gravitate toward white and cream tops! I’m going to have to keep that in mind the next time I’m tempted to buy something dark or printed.

  1. I really am intrigued by the Day Glove and love that taupe-y color. Glad you love them! I am also interested in trying the Cheeky and curious to learn what you think after sizing down. If you can compare to fit of the Modern BF, that would be lovely. I am between indigo and black and can’t decide what size to get! I ended up taking a 2/26 in the MBF, and they’ve stretched out a LOT (light wash blue), to the point, where I’m not as fond of them now and almost wish I had a 25, but CANNOT imagine wearing a 25 (I am NOT a 0).

    1. Hi Rebecca! That is a great idea for a post! I’ll try and share the differences between the two as soon as I can. So far it seems that the Cheeky have a more tapered/high rise waist.

  2. Love your outfits! Your style is so inspirational. I having been pining for the Cuyana cardigan, I feel like I am right on the edge of both sides (xs/s, mll). Could you describe the fit? What would you recommend for someone that is 5’4, typically a size 4? Thank you!

    1. Hi Paige! I felt like I was the same way! It was a tough call on the fit for me. I have the M/L and it is still pretty fitted! But not ‘tight’ in the arms by any means. So I suppose it might come down to how big your frame is? And if you want a slim or slightly more relaxed fit.
      I hope that helps!!

  3. The Jesse Kamm pants look amazing on you. I love the way you have styled them. I would be tempted by the Skintone colour but I already have the tobacco ones.

  4. Yay! Outfit posts are back! I love that new color of Kamm pant. They look great on you! I would also love a comparison of the modern bf and the cheeky. I love the idea of the day gloves, but I feel like I am either going to wear sneakers or a “real” shoe like clogs or loafers. Maybe I would like them more in the fall? I am not sold on them. If I were to get them, I think I’d go crazy and get the light blue though. I think they would look cute and tonal with light wash jeans. I do love the brown on brown with the Kamm pants though. Your color palette is on point.

    1. Thanks Mel, I am with you on the sneakers or clogs and loafers. We will see what kind of role these Day Gloves play! I do like that they are slip on and actually have a back (unlike my clogs) so they are a little warmer. I love your tonal styling idea! Thanks for noticing my sweet brown on brown color palette.;)

  5. I adore all the warm tones in these outfits, and these new Kamm pants look so wonderful on you. I, too, am devoted to white tops, especially as the weather turns warmer. As a general question, I’m curious how you approach redundant pieces in your wardrobe. These pants look similar to the Everlane wide leg crops in ochre (of which I also have a pair!), and perhaps serve the same function in terms of silhouette, color, etc. I find I have a hard time finding the “perfect” piece (in this case, these gorgeous Kamms), and I will often buy an interim item (like the Everlanes) that I can rationalize works well enough, only to eventually come across the ideal item…and then buy that too! And while I’m usually able to sell the less than perfect goods to recoup some of the cost (and see that the item gets used by someone else I hope), I know I should have just been more patient in the first place, exercised an ounce a restraint, and not settled. All this being said, do you find this process as difficult as I do? haha. I imagine it’s even harder when some of your items may be c/o and you envision them fitting in to your wardrobe, but perhaps they aren’t the best fit after all. Sorry, novel over!

    1. Lenna, you nailed it. That is often exactly what I do, and what I did with the Everlane widelegs/Kamms. Except it was a little different in that I sold the Everlane widelegs first because I was dissatisfied with the fit. And then later bought the Kamms. I think I tend to kid myself by thinking that the ‘second best’ item will truly work. But then again, sometimes it works beautifully! It’s so hard to know without truly wearing and testing out an item. And yep, the same thing can happen with c/o items too. Sometimes an item I’m gifted will be too close to the item I wanted to buy, so then I’ll just stick with the c/o instead of buying what I truly wanted. Only later to realize I still truly wanted to the latter. But again, sometimes I ended up loving the c/o choice better. It really is a process, one that I tend to wayyyyyyy overthink.

  6. I ordered the black cheeky in both 28 (my usual size) and 27, and the 27s fit perfectly – no gapping at the waist, nice comfortable high rise (I love the way high-waisted pants make me feel), fit my hips (38.5″). I’ve worn them the past two days to work. I made a goal to only purchase 5 items of clothing this year, and these jeans were good enough to make it as my first purchase of the year (your blog inspired me to set this goal and save, by the way – thank you!).

    1. Hi Karen, I’m so glad your 27s fit perfectly!! I’m so impressed with your five item goal! I truly believe the fewer decisions we have to make when getting dressed in the morning means, the easier it is to get dressed (and well!). Enjoy your pants and good luck with your goal!

  7. I love white tops too and the Alta looks great on you! Just wondering though, how well do you think it would work with a mid rise? As much as I like the look of high rise pants, I hate the feeling of being squeezed or cut in half around the waist, especially when sitting down or playing with my son on the floor.

    1. Hi Sophie! The Alta is a little cropped in the front, but it works with all my pant rises. I have the S/M and it comes down past my hips. You should be able to wear it with a midrise no problem!

  8. White and cream tops are my fashion weakness. Tricky with a baby, but that hasn’t stopped me from wearing them anyway. Haha. Love the jumpsuit!

    1. I am with you! I thought I’d have to give up those colors with kids too, but nope, I’ve just gotten really good at getting stains out. :)

  9. Hi Andrea! I love the Only Child Alta top… curious what you think about the linen vs. raw silk? Has the linen softened up over time? I like the flowiness of the raw silk, but wonder if it’s as durable as linen… Thank you!

    1. Hi Nan! Great question. I have two linen alta tops (in addition to the raw silk) and the linen ones vary even between themselves. The rust linen one is a soft, yet thick linen, some of the most luxurious linen I’ve met to day. The white one is more crisp, but the rust one is definitely drapier. Which color are you considering? I do like the raw silk too, it’s nubby, and totally different!

      1. Thank you so much for the perspective! I love the rust color myself, looks great in all your photos! This is a tough choice… :) Thanks for bringing so many great designers to our attention!
