The last month I’ve taken a bit of time off from the blog, to be able to enjoy a slow December, like I encouraged you all to do. And it’s been great. BUT MAN, I’ve missed this space! I love the give and take that goes on, your feedback always means so much. And, of course, I love sharing what I’ve been wearing. It’s excellent motivation each morning to really style myself.
This week has been all about the clogs. I was a huge clog-wearer back in college, I wore one of my two pairs of Danskos nearly every day. I loved the height boost and the rocking sole (great for walking all over campus). This fall I have found a new clog-love in my No.6 slip ons, and most recently my No.6 clog boots. Both are great, wear-everywhere types of shoes. The soles have extra-thick rubber bottoms, and the wood is lacquered to help keep water off. Their functionality reminds me of what I loved about my Danskos. After a long time of waiting, I bought my No.6 boots in December, and my only regret is that I didn’t buy them sooner.
MONDAY:
T Top, c/o Jamie + the Jones (on sale!) | Black Jeans, c/o Everlane | Clogs, No.6 | Scarf, Only Child
Since Monday was Christmas, I thought it only appropriate that I take my shot in front of the tree. I was inspired by Paige’s Christmas Eve look, which I totally replicated, but with my own twist. This is the first time I finally felt comfortable in my bandana, and I think that’s because I was aiming for ‘dressed up’ rather than ‘everyday.’ It was the perfect dash of color to a mostly all-black ensemble. The clogs were perfect for lots of standing and cooking in the kitchen. Plus, they were easy to slip off when the day got warm from oven heat and the guests we had over.
Style Notes: Black and rust (or cognac, or any warm tone) is a favorite combo of mine. This outfit is simple and chic, just how I like it.
Style Score: 10
TUESDAY:
Cardigan, Everlane | Striped Tee, Everlane | Jeans, Vintage Levi’s (505) via Etsy | Clog Boots, No.6 | Tote, c/o Cuyana | Lipstick, Hourglass (If Only)
Sometimes the ‘in between’ days can feel the hardest to get dressed for. We were mostly lounging around home with some guests coming over, so I went for ease and comfort. And of course, I opted for these boots, which I am working diligently to break in (they are a bit narrow on my right foot). Let me tell you, I wanted to buy these last year, but I felt they were too expensive, so I went for chelsea boots instead. I wish I would have followed my instinct and just waited to get these. I have wanted them since Michelle Williams made them cool many years ago. (As in, before I had kids!) It makes me savor them all the more because I wanted them for so long!
After reading this article I considered a similar pair by Dansko, but I wasn’t sure how accurate this information is, given the age of the article, and I preferred the look of the wood bottoms. Plus, these can be re-soled, Dansko’s can’t. I do think the Dansko’s are a fair alternative and, if I wasn’t in the market to make such a big investment in shoes, I might have purchased them instead.
Style Notes: I absolutely love the way these look with the frayed jeans. It’s effortless and my ankles are still warm. My mom thinks I should trim my strings though.
Style Score: 10
WEDNESDAY:
Chambray, old J.Crew (similar in men’s) | T Sweater, c/o Jamie + the Jones (similar style)| Jeans, Everlane | Clogs, No.6 | Tote, c/o Cuyana | Lipstick, Hourglass (If Only)
Clogs and socks! It was a surprisingly warm combination, though I wouldn’t care to do it in the rain. I like how this look came together. This sweater continues to be a favorite of mine and I love the way it looks when layered.
Style Notes: Though I love socks with my clogs, only about two pairs I own work. The rest look too worn down in the heel or ‘off-tone.’ While it’s a fun look, I guess I’ll have to do it sparingly!
Style Score: 9
THURSDAY:
Merino Turtleneck, thrifted (similar in cotton) | Wide Leg Crop Pant, Everlane | Clog Boots, No.6 | Day Market Tote, c/o Everlane, sold out (similar option) | Lipstick, Hourglass (If Only)
One of the first things I did after these boots arrived in the mail was go through and try them on with my different pant styles. I got more excited with each pair I wore them with. All of a sudden, my winter pant collection felt very augmented because I had an easy way to wear them and keep my ankles warm. I realized that’s such a great takeaway for investing in your wardrobe. The item you add should always make your existing wardrobe feel augmented, instead of making you feel like you need to go buy two or three more items to make it work. I am happy to report these pants have moved from fall archive, and back into winter rotation. I wore long, dark socks with my boots, and for the first time, loved the way these pants looked paired with boots. An all-around win!
Style Notes: Blending neutrals is my favorite, as noted on Monday. I felt great in this outfit!
Style Score: 10
FRIDAY:
Rain Jacket, Bridge & Burn | Denim Jumpsuit (M), REIFhaus (currently on sale!) | Striped Shirt, Tradlands (sold out) similar in silk | Bag, thrifted Madewell (ethical alternative) | Clog Boots, No.6 (similar)
Another pair of pants (or jumpsuit in this case) and another win! These boots are a gorgeous balance to the volume and shape of this jumpsuit. I wish I would have taken a photo without the coat to really show you. Undoubtedly, I’ll repeat a version of this, and share with you soon. You can’t see it, but I also snuck my favorite alpaca sweater by Zady in there, acting as a warming layer between me and my raincoat.
Style Notes: This is definitely a more ‘fringe’ look than some of the others I wear, but I’m okay with that, I don’t really have the desire to dress like everyone else. I am happy to stand out, I just want to make sure it’s well-executed. Hence all the style discourse here on the blog.
Style Score: 9.5
SATURDAY:
Denim Jacket, Levi’s | Sweater, Everlane (a few seasons old) | Clyde Work Pant, olive in cotton twill, Elizabeth Suzann (similar in cotton canvas) | Clog Boots, No.6 (similar) | lapel pin, Art Jaden Designs | canvas tote, very old from West Elm
We were headed to the local science museum, and I swear, days like that are the hardest for me to get dressed for. It would be a lot of time of my feet, so my new favorite clog boots seemed the right choice. It’s just one reason why they appeal to me so much, it’s comfort without sacrificing style. It’s been a good run with these ES pants, and I am excited to get even more wear out of them now I have these boots. In the past, I tried pairing them with my chelsea boots, but it never felt right to me.
Style Notes: Casual, easy, and 100% me. These pants are great for styling a casual look, for someone who wants to look and feel relaxed, but isn’t into ‘athleisure.’
Style Score: 10
SUNDAY:
Claude Cardigan, L’envers| Blouse, c/o Tradlands | Jeans, Rag & Bone (sold out, like these too) | Clog Boots, No.6 (similar) | Bag, c/o ABLE
About twenty minutes after I took this photo I unbuttoned another button, and the outfit improved by a solid 50%. Not because there was anything flashy going on, but it just had a much better looking neckline, a V instead of a crew. I love this blouse, and I need to make friends with my ironing board and wear it more. It flows like silk, but washes like cotton. I wore it for our fun, little NYE at home with the kids, and couldn’t have been happier.
Style Notes: A pretty basic cardigan/jean/boots combo and I like it, but I don’t love it. I love the elements, but not sure I’m heads over heels for the end result.
Style Score: 8

FAVORITES: Monday, Tuesday, Saturday
KEY LESSONS: When in doubt, wear the clogs. And don’t be afraid to stand out.
Welcome back and happy new year Andrea!
I love your Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday outfits!
I’m also a clog lover but have mainly been wearing my clog boots, but your Wednesday outfit inspires me to be bold and try the wool socks/clog combo.
Hi Chloe! Thank you! I love your clogs on you. Black clogs are so classic in my opinion! I hope you rock yours with socks soon. Btw, just peeked over at your site, so many wonderful posts for me to catch up on!!
You make the boots look so cool! Totally complements your winter cloths. I am on the hunt for high shaft boots to wear with my ankle pants. Never had clogs but will keep an eye on these!
It is hard, right? So many of the popular boots are short-shafted! That’s why chelsea or clog boots are a great option. But little by little I am starting to see taller shafted boots. Gotta keep those ankles warm.
I have always lusted after these no. 6 boots (Michelle Williams was also my inspo!!) and I actually did buy the Dansko version as a slightly cheaper alternative. I can attest to their comfort, but I’m not so sure they have the same cool-girl vibe as these boots!
Katie, I have the Dansko Maria((s)– in black and taupe nubuck) too. They’ve been a staple for me for going on 2 years but those No.6 boots are the bomb! I really wish the Dansko shaft was taller (maybe 6″). But, alas… good is good. We don’t have to be perfect. Right? :-)
Same here for the black Danskos! I’ve had mine for over two years and they still look and feel great.
Great perspective Katie!! Love it!
Same! Most of my jeans are cropped-is ha don I think I’d wear them more often if the shaft were just a tad bit taller! I’ve been eyeing the taupe but I seriously need another pair of ankle boots like I need a hole in my head.
Honestly, I can’t believe I never went for the Dansko ones, they are so cute! I will say though, I have big feet (Euro 41), and I feel like No.6 make my feet look a little less clunky than Danskos in my size, but it’s been a few years since I’ve tried them on.
Socks with a fancy heel flap show off well in clogs, especially with cropped pant legs. I do have to agree with your Mother, though. The cut-offs would look more polished with the strings cut.
Haha, thanks Anne!!
Happy New Year Andrea!
Missed seeing your pretty face & outfits!
Clog boots are definitely on my wish list!
Cheers to a great 2018!
Xo!
Hi Jodie, as always, I’m so thankful to have you here! :)
Your styles always inspire me to look at my minimal wardrobe inventory in new ways.
I like your chambray shirt combo under the sand color short sleeved sweater. Yay! I can do that but had never thought of it before-
Thank you!
Er cream colored sweater with rolled sleeves,
my screen is too small ;)
I’m so honored Natalya! I love re-mixing what I own, it brings me much satisfaction!
Love these outfits! Curious what coat you wore with the one with the denim jacket, since right now it’s freezing in portland! Always helpful this time of year to see outfits with coats – I really appreciated the post you recently did on yeah because sometimes I struggle with that! Thanks!
Hi Ella, great question! Early in the day I had my leather jacket on instead of the denim jacket, and I was fine with that plus the cashmere sweater for popping in and out of the car. With the denim jacket, I was a little colder outside, but we were headed to Omsi, and I didn’t want to carry a coat around with me, so I went for this. If I was spending more time outside, I would have swapped the denim for my down parka! It’s been cold. Today was particularly bitter!
did on that not yeah!
gotcha!
Happy New Year!
You look so happy in these photos and I’m SO glad you went for your grail level clogs. I have a feeling you’re going to be more than well-pleased with them. They look like they’d go with most everything.
My poor ankles are still uncovered and I have no clue what I’m going to do when the weather dips again. I don’t think I have any daily wearable boots that cover them. =\
Alicia! I always love it when you drop by. You know, if I was in a slick office job, I’d probably opt for bare ankles. But since much of my time consists of hauling grade schoolers around town, (and do you know how unbelievably slow they are at getting in and out of the car?!) and walking outside, I go for the boots. Perhaps you just need to knit up a pair of chunky leg warmers to throw over those ankles when you’re getting to and fro?
And thanks for the support. These are definitely holy grail boots for me!
Girl, you hit it outta the park with all of these – love it! Happy New Year!
Thank you Lindsey!! Your comments mean so much. Happy New Year to you and the fam!
Can you compare your No. 6 to your Bryr clogs? I see you didn’t wear those at all in these pictures. Is one brand more comfortable than the other?
Hi Jen! Great question, I almost addressed it in this post, but I thought a different one might be better. I still love my Bryr clogs, in fact, I bought a new pair for spring. But for me, they are a bit of a dressier shoe. I tend to wear them when I’m going out to dinner, out with drinks for friends, or any time when I want to feel more dressed up. I love both styles of clogs, and they have different functions in my life. The No.6 ones are more casual and sturdy, the Bryr ones are a little bit more dainty and dressy. I hope that helps!
Happy New Year – nice outfits and enjoy the reviews – you look great. May I suggest though, that you need a new haircut? The bangs/length are just not as flattering for you – makes your face look “closed in”. A great hairdresser could tweak your cut easily.
Hi Brenda, thanks for the honest feedback. This might have been better as a private message though. My hair is a huge area of struggle for me, I’m never happy with it!
My apologies, Andrea. I didn’t mean it to be hurtful – I think you look great and just love your “older” hair style in the profile. Again, my apologies.
:) No worries.
Hi Andrea, I discovered your blog a couple months ago and I just love how insightful your posts are. Thank you for taking the time to document and share! I bought a pair of shearling Sven clog boots that I love (they keep my feet so, so warm!), but I want to be sure to treat it well for the harsh winters here in NYC. I read your post about caring for your leather and suede shoes, but I was curious if you treated your clog boots differently? Thanks in advance!
Hi! I haven’t done anything to treat my clogs. For now I will just keep an eye on the leather and the soles. Beyond that I’m not sure what I might do. Perhaps replace the soles if need be. I do try to avoid puddles with my clog boots.
I think Thursday and Friday were my favorite looks! I might steal those looks from you if you don’t mind. Missed you girl…
xo
Ah, thanks Shelbi!
This is my favorite week of outfits so far! Those No.6 clogs are seriously amazing and they look great with everything. I’m considering a pair of Dansko Maria’s myself but hoping to luck out on a second hand site before I pull the trigger on a new pair. Wonderful outfit inspiration as always! Also, really liking your hairstyle
I hope you find what you’re looking for Jenine! I have seen a few pairs of the boots on Noihsaf Bazaar.
