Most of us who are ethical-fashion-aficionados have come to realize that fair fashion comes with a price tag. If we want clothing made of quality fibers, produced in safe conditions, by people who are paid well, those expenses are going to drive up the price of what you and I are paying. After a few years of shopping and writing about this industry, I am generally prepared to save up and invest, but the item must meet many needs in my closet. Recently, my new thing is to brainstorm at least five outfits with an item before I consider purchasing it. If I need to buy more clothes to go with what I’m buying, then it’s probably not a good fit. If it breathes new life into what’s already in my closet, then we’re talking.
Today I’m excited to share with you a sweater that’s so good and versatile, you won’t even need to brainstorm outfits because there will be too many to write down! This fall, responsible fashion brand Vetta launched their Minimal Capsule, which included the Oversized Sweater, in both black and gray. I received this sweater as a gift from the company to style and review for you guys, but before I could do that, the sweater sold out crazy-fast! Today, Vetta is opening up pre-orders for their second release of the sweater. Before we get to those details (below including a discount!), I want to show you just how this sweater works.
The Turtleneck
Seen here as a turtleneck, this ultra soft sweater is made from 100% organic cotton, with fabric that’s knitted in the USA! The dolman style sleeves are super cute, and make the oversized style feel soft and feminine. I particularly like the vertically ribbed sleeves, which are nice and fitted, and at the perfect ‘bracelet length.’
The Oversized Crew
I love a good crewneck, and the detail of the buttons up the back elevate the overall look of this sweater. For me, a black crewneck sweater is the ultimate winter blank canvas. It’s perfect to show off favorite scarves, a new neck tie, and of course statement jewelry.
The Boxy Cardigan
I find the cardigan function of this sweater really helpful in my wardrobe because I can wear it over tops with boxy fits or wider sleeves (like the one I featured here). I love the look of oversized tops, but have struggled with how to layer over them to keep warm. This boxy cardigan has been an excellent solution!
The Details
I am wearing the Oversized Sweater in a small. The fit is generous, but definitely not overwhelming, the fitted sleeves help the oversized fit still feel ‘to scale’ on my body. Vetta recommends dry cleaning for this sweater, which is a bummer to me, because I’m not a fan of dry cleaning. But I always layer my sweaters over other shirts, so I don’t anticipate it being too much of a problem. Sometimes I cheat and wash things in the machine anyway, but the dark nature of this knit makes me worried it would fade if I machine washed, so I’ll probably stick with the occasional dry cleaning.

I love the idea of this sweater, but the trouble is that since turtlenecks, crewnecks, and cardigans are the things I wear the most, I actually already have separate garments that fulfill all of these functions in the colors that Vetta offers. And since I wear them so much, I’d be concerned about a single item getting dirty all the time or wearing out super fast.
I can totally see this if you’re building a wardrobe from scratch, or for travel–if I traveled more in the winter, that alone would be worth it.
I would also be really excited to see Vetta make this in more colors–I can justify a bunch of different gray sweaters, but the only way I’m going to own a goldenrod sweater, or a burnt orange or a dark green, is if it can be styled a ton of different ways.
We are totally on the same wavelength about picturing this for travel! I wish it was a *little* less oversized for my body-type, but I love the idea behind it. I can’t wait to see what they do next.

It took me a while to understand that the turtleneck was detachable. Duh!
A good versatile piece is absolutely perfect but I usually steer away from “dry clean only” pieces and totally would totally (hand)wash them anyways.
I love how you styled it (your shoes + bags = <3)! and I'm a total sucker for the buttons in the back!
Oh man, that’s kind of an important detail that I accidentally omitted! Yes, that’s exactly right, there are a few buttons that make it attach. :)
I already wanted this sweater, but you really sold it to me here! Not sure that it’s in my budget right now, but hopefully soon! My only hesitation is the dry cleaning, but I usually just risk it and hand wash my dry clean only pieces, especially if its cotton.
Sometimes I am feeling adventurous and I handwash my dry clean items, and other times I am feeling generous and i pay for dry cleaning. But mostly, I just air them out and then fold them up and put them back away. ;)
I asked Vetta about machine washing when I ordered this sweater (ended up returning it because I just can’t get behind a cozy warm sweater that doesn’t cover my arms and it was more like 3/4 sleeves on me), and they said they thought it would be fine to machine wash, it just might not hold it’s shape quite as well.

I’m so with you on the sleeves. I finally trotted a sweater I love on paper (alpaca, Nordic knit, in yellow and grey) because the sleeves are too short. I want cosy wrists as well as everything else!

Have you considered doing a home dry clean? You could get the kits, like Dryel, though that still involves some unsavory chemicals. I’ve made my own DIY Dryel cloths with borax, essential oils and an oxy-clean type thing. You can get the ingredients on Amazon, and after the upfront costs (maybe $20 or so), you’re set for a LONG time; plus it doesn’t really take that long to do, especially if you only do it every so often.

Also, +1 on the thoughts of having it in a broader range of colors! I too am covered with what I need for black and grey, but would invest in an unusual color for an item could be worn many ways.

I’ve never heard of the brand, but I’m always happy to find a new ethical company. What I really loved seeing is that they have product shots of all different sizes! That’s amazing. I wish more companies (ahem, Everlane) did this. Especially in a more oversized style, it really helps to see things on more than just a tall skinny model. It really makes me want to support the company.
