Hello From My Kitchen!

Don’t worry – you didn’t accidentally click on a cooking blog. Today I decided to try out something new. I’ve been really excited to show you this dress I received from my friend Haley of Only Child, and I thought, what better way to do it than take some real-life action shots?

So, hello from my kitchen, the place I spend 90% of my time. Aka, my office. Below, you can see two of my cute little reasons for being so busy prepping food.

But let’s talk about this dress and the reason for this post.

You guys got a sneak peek at the Mara Tunic Dress a few weeks ago when I wore it in a 7 Days of Styling post. I was so eager to wear it, I put it on the first day I got it! That should tell you something right there. It’s the perfect shade of blue denim. (If I could find jeans this color I would be very pleased!)

Fit: This dress comes in four sizes: XS/S, S/M, M/L, L/XL, and I am wearing the S/M which is 23″ across and 35″ long. My normal dress size is a 6, and the S/M is almost a perfect fit for me. I say ‘almost’ because when worn as a dress it’s a tiny bit on the short side for my preference, but I love this length when I wear it over pants. If it was any longer, I don’t think it would work well over pants. Therefore, I am willing to embrace the shorter hemline when I wear it as a dress, and I just make sure I employ one of my ‘mom-strategies’ to keep things covered. In the summer, when I wear dresses, I always wear short bicycle shorts underneath. It’s a quick and simple way to make sure nobody gets a show!

Fabric: The soft denim fabric on this dress is weightier than regular cotton, but not too thick. It seems to be the type that will continue to improve with wash and wear. I would describe it as thinner than your denim jacket, but a little thicker than most chambray tops.

Versatility: As I mentioned, I previously styled this tunic over pants – both jeans and black pants, and each time I loved it. It also looks really good with a long-sleeved top under it, I tried it with a turtleneck and a long-sleeved button up. So good! I look forward to this being a multi-season top/dress in my wardrobe for years to come.
