I have been eagerly anticipating the arrival of Everlane’s fall offerings, particularly the Heel Boot.
Last fall I was all ga-ga eyes for the Modern Loafer. I ordered it in two different sizes, but in the end, they were just too narrow for my feet, which run regular to wide. Needless to say I was disappointed. Fast forward 12 months and a lot of shoe designs later, and Everlane has released a new style that is turning my head: the Heel Boots.
The Boots:
I ordered half a size up, 10.5. (That makes me 9.5 in Nisolo and 10.5 in Everlane.) (Hold the bigfoot comments.) They are still pretty snug in the width, but they seem to soften a little more each time I wear them. The chunky heel makes these boots quite comfortable and easy to walk in. There is even a bit of added cushion in the footbed. The elastic goring on the sides makes them easy to get on and off, and also keeps the boots fitting snugly around the ankle instead of gapping.
Overall, the leather on these is gorgeous. I expect they will be the kind of boot that will look better with age.
On Styling:
I feel like this area of my life is my current playground. Much of my mental capacity is taken up by family things (all good!), but the part of my brain that’s just for me likes to read books and think about how I’d style outfits. Styling these boots is trickier than I’d expected. I feel like I naturally gravitate toward the cognac shade, but I had the more practical “need” of dressy black boots in my closet. The jury is still out on whether that was the right choice.
Because these boots feel so dressy for my everyday life I thought the best way to style them was to dial down the fancy-factor with some distressed jeans and a contrasting palette. This sweater is about three years old, but I still love it. The knit texture is an easy way to add visual interest to an outfit. Jamie + the Jones makes a similar sweater, the T Sweater. Though it’s currently out of stock, it sounds like they are bringing a slightly updated version back very soon!
I love the way the boots look with both jeans and dresses. The pointy-almond toe really elongates the leg line. But it manages to do so without making my feet look big (winning!). I am looking forward to styling these with dresses and tights later this winter.

A big thank you to Everlane who sent me these boots to style for Seasons + Salt. As always, all opinions are my own.
These boots look so great on you and love the styling choices!
Thanks Elaine! I really like them, and I’m looking forward to dressing them up. :)
I really love this look for fall! Thanks for the inspiration :)
Ah, thanks Katie! Good luck with your new blog! :)
I know what you mean, black boots always seem so dressy. I think for me it’s how stark they are, compared to my usual go-to, also cognac or brown. Love how you styled them here! Also would look adorable with that striped everlane dress you have I think!
I agree, they are kind of serious! I think for these ones it’s the black heel. Excited to try them out in sort of minimalist way. And you’re right, I bet they would look great with that dress! ;)
I like how those boots fit you, especially in the ankles. (Finding boots that fit snugly at the ankles always seems to be a challenge.) What color tights do you think you’ll wear with them with a dress? That’s so interesting what you say about Everlane v. Nisolo sizes. I am usually a size 6, and I have a size 6 pair of Everlanes, but the Nisolo oxfords I ordered in a size 6 were so small I couldn’t get them on my foot! I returned them in exchange for the 6.5, and I’m still wondering if I should have sized up to a 7. Weird, right? BTW, I loved the Only Child post!
I think I would probably wear them with burgundy or warm tan tights. But we’ll see!
That’s crazy to hear that about the Nisolos! I might just need to be sizing up more in Everlane because their shoes run narrow for me. I hope the 6.5 fits perfectly for you.
Thank you! It was really fun to write and shoot that post. :)
Love the boots! I’m a sucker for all things black, so I’m a fan of this boot simply because its black and shiny and pointy. I think maybe style them with darker colors, too, its hard to make such a strong boot look right if you have nothing else strong in the outfit. I’m sure once fall and winter roll around it’ll be way simpler to style them. I can’t wait to see more!

Thanks Kate, great advice! The point on the toe of this boot is just right! I look forward to darker styles for sure this winter.
What a great way to “dress down” a somewhat dressy feeling boot! Love these style notes and will definitely be stealing them. ;)
Oh, I like those! They look like a pair I had about 15 years ago and I’m kicking myself for not keeping them. They needed resoled and I just took them to the goodwill instead of fixing them. :-( I have learned my lesson on getting rid of high quality things I love….they always come back around! These will look great with dresses and tights, but I love they casual look, too!
So true, Rebecca. I regularly take good quality shoes in to get repaired because I’ve found the same thing to be true. They end up coming back in style.
I’ve been ogling your jeans for the last few months, but held off purchasing them because I thought the light wash wouldn’t really work for the cooler temps. Seeing them with the black boots completely changed my mind. Thanks for the inspo. X
I love ankle boots, but I really struggle to style them. I have short legs and ankle boots tend to make them look even shorter. It’s a problem I haven’t quite figured out. I love that you just went for it and will play around with them ’til you figure out what you like best. I think they will look great dressed up!
