I’m finally getting what I’ve been wanting all summer, hot days and warm nights.
Portland is in the middle of a hot streak, and I’m enjoying it while trying not to be a hot mess. It’s so much harder to feel pulled-together when you’re sticky, you know? That’s when things like a linen frock come in handy. I can call this a frock, right?? I think technically it’s a caftan, though I’m not sure exactly what the difference is. My husband referred to it as a ‘cow’ and then a ‘cowl’ when we were shooting these pictures. Ha! This may not be his favorite item in my closet. But, it’s my blog, so I win.
This 100% linen caftan has very interesting proportions and, though I’m not quite used to them, this garment has the cooling capabilities of a personal air conditioner. I think it’s the closest I can be in public to wearing (what feels like) nearly nothing and still being appropriately covered up.
FULL DETAILS:
1 | The dress is by Emerson Fry, a favorite of mine, who make all their items in the USA. I thrifted my caftan, but they currently have a beautiful, indigo version for sale this season in organic linen.
2 | One of my favorite ethical shops, Belvele, currently has many of their linen items on sale right now. I love the ESBY jumpsuit (55% linen, 45 % cotton), the color is so hard to beat. And this 100% linen pocket dress by Emerson Fry is gorgeous! The back of it might just be my favorite part. (Use code: SUMMER+SALT to save an additional 15% above the sale price!)
3 | My sandals are by Everlane. They don’t stock them in this color anymore, but you can still find them in black. Nisolo makes a beautiful caramel sandal in a similar style.
4 | Little bucket bag. This has been my most-used purse this summer. It’s so lightweight, and the leather is buttery soft. My favorite part: it’s made in the USA.
Are you keeping cool where you’re at? How do you keep the heat from taking your outfit over?
xo,
Andrea
Nice outfit! The heat has made me so glad I’ve gradually phased out polyester over the years .. Cottons are so much cooler.
For sure!! The ability to breathe takes on critical meaning in the summer.
I think the print is more a piece of marble than cow……. ;-) I have to disagree with your husband….it looks great! I am not keeping my cool and have been showering multiple times a day since it’s so sticky here. We probably only have 10 more days or so of it, fortunately, so the end is in sight! September is usually gorgeous!
Haha, I love it. It IS more marble.
Hope you’re surviving the rest of August. We have a bit of a reprieve for a few days right now, phew!
