A TedTalks on ethical fashion? Yes, please! Catherine over at Walking With Cake breaks down the talk, which includes the speaker’s trip to a garment factory in China. A great read and a quick listen if you have the time. >> Check It Out
Are you taking a trip this summer? I’m a classic over-packer and have yet to actually achieve packing in a minimal manner, but I love the challenge. I just need the vacation to go along with it. ;) For some great inspiration check these out: >> A Weekend Family Trip + In My Carry On
We might dress well, look pulled together, but how much money is in our savings account? A new report out says that American’s are seriously shortchanging themselves. And it’s probably more widespread than you thought. >> Read It
And finally, the fashion world has lost an industry-shaping figure. I’ll admit, I did not know who Bill Cunningham was until my Instagram feed started being flooded with pictures of him yesterday. He was the original street style and fashion photographer. An unassuming New York icon. “When I’m photographing,” Mr. Cunningham once said, “I look for the personal style with which something is worn — sometimes even how an umbrella is carried or how a coat is held closed. At parties, it’s important to be almost invisible, to catch people when they’re oblivious to the camera — to get the intensity of their speech, the gestures of their hands. I’m interested in capturing a moment with animation and spirit.” >> Read More
The link for the third topic regarding shortchanging our savings account doesn’t appear to be working, it’s taking me to the carry on packing link from the above point. Sorry I’m not trying to be difficult it’s just that I was really interested in the article and would like to read it.
Yikes! Thanks for letting me know!
The savings acct link goes to http://www.stylethislife.com/pack-weekend-family-trip/
Thanks Bobbiejean!
Thank you so much for the mention, Andrea!
Of course! Thanks for the great recap of the talk.
I wanted to read the article about savings, but I think the link is to the previous article you mentioned about packing for a weekend trip. Anywho, I’ve been following the 50-30-20 budget Elizabeth Warren shares in her book All Your Worth and it’s helped me put away money every month without giving up shopping : )
Hi Katherine, thanks for letting me know. The 50-30-20 system sounds interesting! How great that you’ve seen such successes with it!
Just an FYI – I think the link from the 3rd topic (the one about American’s saving habits) is wrong. Really interested in seeing the article!
Thank you Dee!
I used to over pack and I still do to some degree but I am much better than I used to be. I remember my honeymoon back in 2002 and the HUGE suitcase and the 9 pairs of shoes for a 6 day trip! :-/ I’ve come a long way….. When I went to New York City last year I packed for a 3 day trip in a backpack only and loved it! Anytime I travel now I can get everything in my carry on, but usually I only wear about half of what is packed so I still need to work on my packing skills. :-) I see other have mentioned above about the wrong link in the 3rd topic. I’ll check back to read it….sounds interesting! Thanks for the TED talk recommendation! My husband and I plan to listen to it some evening this week while we sit on the porch.
So funny Rebecca! Sounds like something I would have done too. I’m really impressed with your new packing skills.
My family took a ‘slow’ day yesterday and I thought of you. It was wonderful! I’ll probably write a blog post about it soon. :) Let me know what you think of the Ted Talk!
There’s a really great documentary about Bill Cunningham on Netflix – just called ‘Bill Cunningham New York’. I watched it a few months back – he really led an interesting and creative life! Highly recommend. Will be checking back for that link to the savings article, too.
Thanks Stacy, I’ll have to check that one out!!
