Ethical Underthings: PACT Review + Giveaway

Seasons + Salt PACT Review-6

  • No Sweatshops
  • Non GMO, Organic Cotton
  • No Toxic Pesticides
  • No Child Labor

Does that list turn your head? It certainly turns mine. In the fall my husband and I discovered PACT, a brand of men, women and children’s socks and underwear (among other items!) that promises to be sweatshop-free, put people first and make super soft items in the process.

Over Christmas we stocked up on their socks, I love their no-shows, and my husband scored a bunch of socks for work during one of their holiday sales.

Now, I’ve taken my PACT relationship to the next level. They’ve sent me some undies to give you the skinny on!

Seasons + Salt PACT Review-5 Seasons + Salt PACT Review-4[PACT Apparel Boy Shorts in Black]

Seasons + Salt PACT Review-2 Seasons + Salt PACT Review[Shelf Bra Camisole in Nude + Women’s Hipsters in Chambray Floral and Sagebrush]

What I Got:

They sent me one medium Shelf Bra Camisole in nude, two pairs of medium Women’s Hipsters underwear (this is the style I normally wear, but from another company) and four pairs of medium Boyshorts.

First Impression:

Lovely presentation, but there is a lot of packaging involved. I would love to see less of that, but I am pretty sure it’s the way they are sold in stores (find them at Whole Foods!) and that’s why they come that way when you order online. The camisole felt nice and thick, not skimpy or poorly sewn like a lot of other women’s camisoles. The hipsters looked very pretty in their lace and patterned fabric and the boyshorts looked like my husband’s underwear, ha!

Thoughts After Some Regular Wear:

The camisole has really surprised me – it does not roll up like some other snug fitting ones do. The organic cotton/elastane blend fabric layers well under other tops because it mimics the smooth surface of skin. Some of my 100% cotton undershirts tend to grab their overshirts leaving me with a bunchy problem. The elastane adds just enough stretch and silky effect to the cotton that I don’t have that problem. The length is long enough to make me feel covered, but short enough that it doesn’t peek out too much from below my tops.

The hipsters are very pretty. They are cute and comfortable to wear, but the boyshorts really stole my attention. I don’t usually wear this style of underwear (boyshorts) because honestly, I feel like my bum hangs out of the bottom and I don’t like it. But these boyshorts have amazing coverage, they have just enough length to make me feel covered but they’re still short enough to not give me VPLs (visible panty lines)! The most noticeable factor on these is the fabric (organic cotton and elastane blend). It’s so thick and soft! They are way higher quality than some of the other pairs I’ve owned in the past. And finally, probably the most important quality: they do not ride up!

Here’s brief recap…

COMFORT: Hipsters, A; Boyshorts, A+ (they are undies that feel like pajamas, if that makes sense).

VPLs: Hipsters, A for jeans, B- with leggings due to the lace. Boyshorts, A+ in jeans.

WEDGIE FACTOR:  Both, A+ these bad boys stay right where they belong.

BOTTOM LINE: They look good and they feel good. I’d take a picture of them showing how cute they look on, but I’m just not that kind of girl. ;)

What I Didn’t Like:

There is a limited availability of some sizes and colors, particularly the black hipsters. The lace detail on the hipsters creates a bit of a VPL situation.

Why I Like the Company

I love what they stand for. PACT’s mantra is to put people first, and create their products in a non-sweatshop setting in a way that doesn’t harm the environment. They’re committed to not using child labor and staying away from toxic pesticides. This means they use non-GMO, organic cotton. They mean business with their undies and they’re on a mission to change the way people shop for clothes, they want us – you and me – to pause and ask, ‘where did my clothes come from?’ They want to connect buyers with makers. Now, that’s something I can get behind.

Your Turn! PACT is giving away $50 to one lucky Seasons + Salt reader, enter below!

  1. Great review – I’ve had undergarments on my shopping list for a while and wasn’t sure where to start looking. I guess I’ve found it!

  2. I love PACT! I have their black wrap dress and I adore it. Once all of my non-ethical underwear gets worn out, I am planning to replace them with the PACT ones, but I wasn’t sure if the hipsters or the boy shorts were better. Thanks to your review, sounds like the boy shorts are the way to go!

    1. I’ve read that their underwear runs small and that you should order a size up from what your size is on the sizing chart – is that true?

      1. Cassandra, I feel like they run pretty true to size for medium, which I wear in other brands of undergarments. But I did look at the sizing chart, and I fell kind of between a S and M based on their measurements, and their Mediums fit me comfortably. Hope that helps!

  3. Thank you! Underthings are next on my sustainable/ethical wardrobe overhaul. It’s so hard to find and I love how affordable their items are! I’ll be making an order whether I win or not!

  4. Thanks for this! I’ve been looking at this brand for a while and your Whole Foods tip prompted me to go by and check it out in person! Any idea whether the items will shrink? I bought a tank and I’m afraid if it shrinks it will be too small. I might need to size up.

    1. Yay! Glad you found them! I have dried my undies and they are just fine, but I probably will not dry my camisole because I like the way it fits, and I’d prefer it not to shrink. But I am weird, and there is a lot of stuff I don’t dry! If it’s a tank with part elastane, it will probably air dry really quickly anyway.

  5. Great! I was wanting to buy a slip or something to wear under a see-thru dress..I think the camisole will work :)

  6. Thanks for the review! (I’m new to your blog been following for about a month) I just placed an order and am super excited to try their stuff out. Any idea on where to look for ethically sourced bras that aren’t just thin cotton? I like something with a little shape so that nothing shows through but it is proving difficult to find in a reasonable price point.

    1. Paula, this is a great question! Something I have struggled with as well. I HAVE NO IDEA, arg! If I find something good, I will definitely share.

  7. Thanks for the chance to win! I love PACT. Shelf bra cami’s were the first thing I had to source on my slow fashion journey and theirs are SO much better than the ones I used to pick up from Express…and comparable in price, which I thought was amazing!

    1. I agree! I used to buy the ones from Nordstroms, from the jr’s section, and these ones are way nicer!

  8. I am very excited to run across this blog. I am new to the ethical fashion and appreciate your reviews of PACT. I look forward to purshasing some!

  9. Hi! Was the winner announced for this contest by any chance? I didn’t see it anywhere

    1. Hi Jenn!

Yes, we contacted the winner privately! I am so sorry for any confusion. Perhaps I should have included that important detail in my post. Again, my apologies.
