Zero Waste Home. Wow, I listened to a podcast interview with the woman behind this movement – she fits her household’s annual waste in a quart-sized jar – and it has really made me think. She’s not a crazy hippie either, but rather a French transplant who wants to spend more time living and less time consuming. It’s a great interview, you can catch it here, and you can also read her blog post about her minimal wardrobe here.
Momdrobe. Best phrase ever, right? The lovely Jaana of This Mom’s Gonna Snap breaks down four wardrobe strategies for fall – including my favorite ‘zee French wardrobe. (Total cheeseball here, and I mean me, not her.)
9 Days – 1 Carry-On. I am pretty sure Lee of Style Bee has reached style nirvana with this post. Reading this over makes me a little embarrassed about all the times I lugged around a giant suitcase for not-so-long trips. But I’ve learned a lot in the last year and hope my next packing list looks something like this. You go girl!
Beachy Waves Tutorial. Another hair tutorial because my hair is the one thing I can never figure out. I have graciously accepted the rest of the way God made me, big feet, broad shoulders, etc. But my hair, oye my fine hair – I am just never satisfied with how I’ve styled it. I am been trying out this approach, and I can’t believe I never thought to straighten the ends of my hair before curling, so effective. So far so good. I also ordered this straightener that’s a rockstar of reviews on Amazon because it’s narrow enough to do curls and only $40! I’ll keep you posted…
I recently finished this one up
and I am surprised at how much it has been sticking around in my mind. It’s a rather haunting recount of the tragic events in the summer of 1942 in Paris when Jewish citizens were rounded up by French police (on Nazi orders) and kept locked up in dreadful conditions for days, and ultimately deported to concentration camps. Intermixed with a modern-day family, this generation spanning story is not easily forgotten.
I must be on a historical fiction kick, because this is the third one in a row I’ve read/am reading. I am only a few chapters in, but I am already hooked on the tale of the woman who became Charles Lindberg’s wife.
I have been trying hard to make extra time in my life for relaxing, (aka reading!) and it has been so rewarding. Our lives get so busy, but don’t forget to slow down and put your feet up, even if it’s just for a few minutes.
Hope your weekend is lovely!
I’m trying to take advantage of the quiet house during maternity leave to read more – hoping to make it a habit that sticks once I’m back to work. Maybe the time I won’t be consuming (aka post kid bedtime online shopping sprees) can be dedicated to books?!
Xoxo,
Paige
Thank you for sharing this episode of The Lively Show!
It’s wonderful to hear it resonated with you and has helped you think more about this, too. I am surprised (and grateful) about how powerful that episode has been for me also. I’m finding myself WAY more aware of my trash lately – in a good way. I hope you find a way that it serves you as well. : )
Love,
Jess!
It really is fascinating how much I keep thinking about that episode. I love how she talked about living with less, and how every time we make a choice as a consumer we are voting toward what we support. Great episode Jess! :)
Thanks so much for including my packing post in your weekly rundown Andrea! Will be checking out these other great links too. Have a good week! xo
