It’s the first week of August and I am hitting that spot in my capsule wardrobe where I am starting to get a little bored. I believe that’s due to three factors: summer outfits are simple and a little bit harder to mix up, my summer capsule items are pretty similar in the overall look and there are only about five weeks left of this capsule.
So when the style blogger gets bored the style blogger starts playing. I am taking my own advice from this post (from my five part series on how to keep from being bored with your wardrobe), and I am trying an unconventional combo. It’s a new take of denim on denim for me. I never even thought to try this until two days ago when I was missing the spark of creativity while trying to figure out what to wear to take my eldest out to dinner for her birthday. The limited number of items in my closet forced me to get creative. And guess what? I really liked the outcome.

Next week I’ll be sharing my best dog days of summer looks, aka how to beat the heat and still look cute. The following week I will be taking off for some very special wedding festivities, and the last week of August I will be sharing some transition to fall looks. I’ll also be talking about my fall wardrobe strategies, including whether or not I’ll be creating a fall capsule. (Hint: I’m still figuring this one out!)
Happy Friday friends!

Yes, let it be fall, please. SOON! The one thing I’ve realized (having retired two this summer due to holes) is that a graphic tee helps keep it interesting for me. Yes, I adore my classic white tee, but my Stones tank wins every day it’s clean. :) Love the idea of a vest, but not sure I could stand it. (Really, REALLY humid hot.) Do you find it oppressive in the heat?
Separately, given your mixed bag review of your comfy sandals, thought I’d pass on a brand in the event you weren’t familiar – Salt Water Sandals by Hoy. Mine have been all over town, to the beach, camping, and everywhere else and look brand new. Super comfy, no fear of them slipping off whilst chasing children, bright red, <$50 and made in the USA. (Or at least they were several years ago when I purchased mine, I should say!)
Maggie, I think I need a better graphic tee and some point, I don’t particularly love mine. As for Salt Waters, I LOVE them… on my kids. I need to try them on again, last time I did, they just made my feet look too big. :( But I may be a touch sensitive in that department.
As for my vest, the denim one i only wear on cooler days, but I have this marvelous little black cotton one that I can easily wear even on hot days! It’s very thin and breezy. :)
Girl you are singing my song. I am so bored with my capsule! Luckily I’m busting out some fall essentials so I can dress appropriately for work! But I’m trying to stay in keeping with the attitude of the capsule process, even if all I want to do at this point is take advantage of the end of season sales! I’m looking forward to being able to layer and layer to change up my outfits rather than attempting to recreate the wheel with each heat-proof look! I’m looking forward to your tips!

Stay strong! Avoid the sales. So often those impulse purchases do not pan out in the long term anyway. But yes, to beat my boredum, I might dig in early to my fall storage, and like Daisy said, try some new things with my hair.
Yes, I feel this too. It did help that I was out of town for about a month and a half, which meant I had to live out of a suitcase anyway! :) I love your outfit though, and I think there are still ways to spice up small wardrobes without acquiring new pieces before the fall. I’ve been doing a little more with my hair lately to keep things interesting!
Great idea Daisy. I always seem to neglect my hair, but it certainly has just as much an impact on our appearances as our wardrobes, if not more! I won’t be buying any clothing items before fall, but if I get too bored I might pull some of my early fall items out of storage and add them to my closet.
