I’ve always considered myself a modest person. Modest as in, I don’t like a lot of eyes on me. When I was in journalism school, I was one of the few pursuing a career behind the camera instead of in front of it. I preferred to be shaping and directing things from behind the scenes. I know, how ironic that I am constantly in front of the camera for this blog. I am doing this blog despite the fact that I have to be in front of the camera, and not because of it. I’d like to eventually feature other people and artisans… But back to modesty. I don’t mean modest like dressing uber covered up (though I am certainly conscious about the level of skin exposure I have). I do mean I’d prefer not to be dressed in a way that attracts lots of attention, I prefer simpler looks over loud ones.
This is why I almost never wear heels with shorts.
But this is a combination I actually like. The tie on the shorts makes them feel a little dressier when paired with these sandals. The low heel height is probably why I feel good with the shorts/heels combo here. I’ll tell ya, I used to wear high heels like nobody’s business. This was before I was a juggling, harried mama though. These days about 2-2.5 inches is as high as I want to go. Any more than that and my feet are just uncomfortable, and I think it’s a little silly to be that uncomfortable for fashion. I still want to feel like myself, you know what I mean?

One final thought on this look: navy and black is one of my most favorite combinations. I stumbled into it last summer, and I remember that feeling of instant chic I felt. Kind of careless and cool all at once. I thrifted these shorts, and I am not really sure if they are navy or they are supposed to be black but I really don’t care. ;)

I have short legs so a heel would look good when I wear shorts, but I can’t bring myself to wear them. Even when I was in my 20’s and early 30’s and in great shape I couldn’t do it. The heel like you have on looks great though!
Love the tie front shorts as well! You find such great thrifted items! Have a great weekend!
Thanks Rebecca!
I bet you could totally rock a heel with shorts. ;)
