Nordstrom Anniv. Sale: Made in the USA

If you’ve been reading my blog for much time, you might know I am not a fan of shopping sales (especially not clearance). I believe shopping sale racks often leads to style confusion and purchasing items you wouldn’t normally buy, which tends to lead to buyers’ remorse and clothing that doesn’t get worn.

However, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is a little different. Leave it to Nordstrom to re-think the sale and leave us with an option that we love. I like the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale because it features items for the coming season plus, Nordstrom always sends out preview catalogs so customers can plan ahead and anticipate their purchases. The sale lasts for a few weeks and includes substantial mark downs on big name items.

It’s been awhile since I’ve talked about my capsule/shopping strategy, but essentially I identify wardrobe holes pre-season, make one tight list and execute my shopping in a small window of time. For me, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale fits that bill. I am sharing a few things that have caught my eye, all of which are MADE IN THE USA! :)

1) Nordstrom/Pleione Top: I love the texture this pattern adds to an outfit. Visually interesting and chic. Perfect for everyday or even wine and apps with the husband.

2) Free People Cowl Neck Sweater: I have long been a fan of this brand. I don’t buy a lot of it because it tends to be a bit bohemian for me, but I love the unconventional proportions their designers use. They are unique and ethereal feeling to me. This top could be a fast staple in my fall wardrobe that wouldn’t come close to ever being boring. The back is to die for!

3) Karen Kane Vegan Leather Skirt: I have been wearing a cotton version of this skirt all summer. It goes with everything! Picking up a cold weather version in a chic leather look would be the ultimate fall dress up outfit. It would look amazing with a slouchy sweater and black booties. Yes, please!

4) Rag & Bone Olive Jeans: What a great chance to pick up a well-priced item from this designer. I have had my eye on Rag & Bone for awhile now, and hope to soon add some to my closet. These distressed olive jeans would nicely round out the neutral tops in my wardrobe.

5) Rag & Bone Cropped Military Jacket: I am convinced this brand is a trend leader, and I really like their cropped take on this current favorite. It could go easily from soccer field spectator to dinner out.

6) AG Cigarette Leg Jeans: From a favorite denim designer of mine that I’ve been wearing since college. The wash on these is excellent and I love the straight/skinny leg, it is really leg-lengthening. I would wear these cuffed above my ankle boots just like the model shows.

7) Nordstrom/Pleione Top: I love a good black top, and the split neckline on this one adds just the right amount of polish.  I would totally wear this under my favorite denim jacket in the fall with my trusty black ankle boots. I love how effortless the combo of light wash denim and black feels.

8) Paige Denim Bootcut Jeans: You can probably see where my little heart is crushing when it comes to denim right now. I love my skinny jeans something fierce, but my closet is ready for an additional denim silhouette. Paige is probably my #1 brand for denim, I love the minimalist design (plain back pockets!) and they hold their shape very well between washes. These say ‘bootcut,’ but I love how generous the fit in the legs is. I am seeing wide leg everywhere this summer and I think it’s going to stick around for fall.

If you’re shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this summer (it ends August 2nd!) I encourage you to make well-thought out choices and read your labels.

Cheers,
andrea

  1. Great picks! I really love that Pleione house brand. I have some Pleione tops from last year’s sale that I adore – they will be making a comeback in my fall capsule. I bought a Clairsonic face brush in the sale with some saved Nordstrom Notes (I’ve been wanting one for ages). This is the first year I haven’t really wanted anything else. I don’t have any holes in my fall capsule to fill (or winter for that matter). I’m pretty proud of myself for recognizing this feeling of contentment and not wanting to shop for recreation.

  2. Thanks for rounding these up! I used to work at Nordstrom so I know the Anniversary Sale well, but mostly was steering clear this year as going through the options just sounded like stress city. It is a good time to pick up quality jeans at a discount though, so some of these picks are perfect!

    1. Oh man, I totally agree Stacy, too many options = too much stress for me. And for sure, the Anniversary Sale is a good time to pick up jeans!
