Keeping it Real & Made in the USA

I am trying out some new settings for my outfit photos since the weather is just darn gorgeous lately! That, and I am reeeely tired of pulling out my roll of white seamless. AND, it’s a lot easier to be photographed while moving and walking rather than to just stand still and strike a pose.

I also read a post over at Franish about keeping it real, and it inspired me to strive to kick things up a notch with you guys.  Normally I shoot my weekly outfits all on one day, because logistically (hello: 3 kids) it works out easier for me. Often those are outfits I have worn that week, and sometimes they are not. Starting this week, I am going to try and take photos of my outfits as I wear them. The goal: 1) to keep it a little more real here at Seasons & Salt and 2) to encourage me to dress a little nicer each day (haha!). I will still be posting them on the following week because I usually try and do my writing ahead of time. There’s a little peek behind the curtain for you guys!

Let’s talk about this outfit. Originally I wanted to include a romper in my summer attire, but alas the bottom line (read: budget) has spoken, so this is sort of my stand-in. I found this awesome, slouchy dress at a local thrift store, and the fit is so lovely! It’s breezy and feels effortless. I have also gotten compliements each time I’ve worn it. :) It’s made by a new-to-me company called Loveappella, and I love Loveappella because they make their clothes in the USA! As I read more about the true cost of what it takes to make cheap clothes, it is becoming increasingly important to me to buy items that are made in the USA and/or are sweatshop free. However, this is NO easy task. So when I find items that are in an afforadable price range that are made in the USA I do a pretty big happy dance. In my links above you can find a few more cute items made my Loveappella.

Do you guys have any favorite brands who manufacture in the USA, or make it a priority to be sweatshop free abroad? I’d love to hear about them!

Cheers to a great week!

  1. I love that black dress….you really score at the thrift store! While I would love to shop more at a thrift store it is pretty hit and miss here. Our city isn’t huge, so we don’t have the selection like Portland. I love that you did your photo outside. I also like the idea of seeing what you wear from day to day, although I understand with three little ones doing that every time in impossible!

    1. Thanks for the feedback Rebecca. And you’re right, we do have more of a second-hand market here because it’s a bigger city. You could always try e-bay, though that can be risky because you can’t try on. Or save up, and wait and get one really nice item instead of a collection of thrifted things. I am hoping to do more of that in the future!

  2. I really enjoy reading about how you’re navigating the shift toward USA, transparent, ethically made clothing. It’s much more challenging than I thought it would be, and I so appreciate your candor!
