2 Summer Items = 1 Pre-Fall Look

Sometimes you just find a wall that matches your clothes.

But seriously, how pretty is this unintentional palette of light gray, dark gray and dusty blue? If you look at the top of the wall, you can see it. There is so much inspiration in the everyday, if only we pay attention.

I used to be a bag-matches-shoes kind of girl, but in recent years I’ve found myself experimenting a bit more. If I already have a simple color palette (and most days I do), I prefer to add a third color with a different shade of bag or shoes. It gives a nice depth to the look. For example, in the above outfit, if I had a tan bag to match my shoes, it would have looked just fine and dandy, but adding the gray instead took the outfit from two-dimensional to three-dimensional. Not to say you shouldn’t match your accessories, plenty of times I do, but a quick swap can be a surefire way to kick things up a notch.

And speaking of spicing things up, this look is another new combo, featuring two things already in my closet. I paired two summery items to create a little more warmth for the cooler weather we’ve been having. I am excited to try new layering techniques this fall. For tomorrow’s post I’ll be sharing my summer wardrobe in review, and I’ll also be touching on my goals for fall. I’m excited to dive in and be mindful of the next few months. And I look forward to hearing what you’re working on for fall too!

Cheers!
Andrea

  1. This looks really great! Btw I love that you’ve stepped outside for photos, but still keeping them super minimal. I am struggling with that balance, when it comes to finding backgrounds.

    1. Thanks Johanne! The change of scenery has been really nice! We’ll see if I can keep it up after the weather changes. I agree, finding an outdoor background is not easy! I’m super picky because I don’t like distracting elements.

  2. I used to ALWAYS match my bag with my shoes. Haha. And now I almost never do. I’ve learned that I although I am drawn to lots of classic pieces, that I don’t like to wear them in a classic way. I usually like to wear them in a more relaxed way with a note of something unexpected. For me this is almost always in the shoes or the bag. ;) Also I think the cognac of your boots makes that color palette up there ^^ dynamic.

    1. Spot on! I think I feel the same way, especially about the ‘unexpected’ part. I never like an outfit to feel to stuffy or formal, so the unexpected or contrasting bits always make me feel just right! Love how introspective you are, and what you’ve learned about your big picture style.
